Perfect songs.

What songs do you consider perfect, as in you wouldn’t change anything if you were able?

My top two I think are You’re So Vain by Carly Simon and Grease by Frankie Valli.

I also reckon Son of a Preacher Man by Dusty Springfield would have to be on my list. Superstar by Sheryl Crow would also be included.

So, I really want to know what you all think to be perfect songs. Hit me with yours.

There's a piece of Nerina in every song that I sing

What GNR did on AFD is basically a perfect distillation of all the good bits of 80s rock.

It's like the 2010s if the only thing you could remember is the 2012 Olympics...

    Ace of Spades - Motörhead.

I'm not even a big fan of the band, but that's such a killer song.  I love the way it ends so abruptly, like "we're done, that's your fucking lot".

Somewhere over the Rainbow would be my absolute favourite most perfect song ever. Melody, harmony, lyrics, absolute perfection for me. No particular recorded version, just the piece of music in its purest form.

In terms of full package songs, I would probably suggest...

    Grace - Jeff Buckley/Gary Lucas
    Yesterday - McCartney
We Are Going To Be Friends - Jack White

Sometimes a song that's used in a movie soundtrack, or has been specifically written for it, will be "perfect" even though heard in isolation the song may not be as perfect.  One example off the top of my head is 'Til You're Home
written by David Hodges and Rita Wilson and performed in different mixes by David Hodges, Rita Wilson and Sebastián Yatra in the Tom Hanks movie "A Man Called Otto".  To my mind it is a perfect choice for the scenes:

    The Weight - The Band.
Big Pink, Last Waltz or the song in general?

    Inspiral Carpets - Sackville

Hell - Something Wicked This Way Comes

    Ride - Polar Bear

    Madonna - Like a Prayer

    The Sandkings - Earthwheel

all fine examples of perfect songs

I went to a Last Waltz tribute show at Birmingham Town Hall the other day. Had to look up that song specifically to remember if they did it (i recognise the chorus, so they did!). I must admit i thought the name in the chorus was Mary rather than what it actually is according to Spotify lyrics!

I was going to add Madonna’s La Isla Bonita but those key stabs grate on me. Apart from that it would qualify.
