Robin Smith

What's Hot

A legend of the game, I used to love watching him play in my early days as a cricket fan.  Died at the age of 62.

I'm only just reading of his issues with depression and alcoholism, it seems even those who I'd think were Superman are just as human as the rest of us, maybe even more.

@Gassage do you have info about the guy?

Fearless, punchy batsman that was an absolute joy to watch against fast bowlers, sadly less so against spinners.
    No age at all, RIP.

Another victim of an era where the English hierarchy treated some players like crap anbd forgave others repeatedly. Always a legend to me.
What can be asserted without evidence can also be ignored with impunity.

With the next test match due to start, I recall a few good moments between Smith and the Aussies - Both tough cookies who could give and take it - A guy I liked to watch play

Sledging at its best - You can't f****** bat," Smith famously responded by hitting a boundary off the next ball and retorting, "We make a fine pair. I can't f****** bat and you can't f****** bowl". This exchange is a classic example of a batsman getting the better of a verbal exchange with an aggressive bowler, particularly a famous Australian like Hughes.

I hope both players/teams give him a well deserved minute silence at The Gabba this week

    RIP Judge

There was an interview with him in the Sunday Times, just a couple of days ago.

    Sad news.
