Amp stand ideas - or something of the like

What's Hot

I'm wanting to get a wooden stand that will elevate my amp 5-6 inches so I can fit my pedal board underneath and tuck it away when not being used. It's in the living room, so that extra space would be quite handy, especially with my cat zipping around chasing string and lasers. (I'm selling the Ox Box as I don't have a use for it anymore). Here is the setup - ignore the pedal placement, chorus is moving to back row and the Benson is being traded for a Jan Ray.

I've looked online and the closest things I can get are really bloody expensive! As you can probably tell from my gear, I don't mind spending money on nice things but for a couple of pieces of wood glued together I don't see the value in these (Etsy was the only place I could find them). Doesn't anyone know of any cheaper ones available - or someone that could build one?

Here is kind of the thing I was looking at, but way overpriced IMO (correct me if I'm wrong).

A bit of wooden worktop offcut and some screw-on legs from IKEA.

@Jonathangus that sounds very reasonable, but I live in a 1 bed flat in London, no shed or decent tools to make it look nice.

My old man is a carpenter and could whip one up no problem, but he's in Australia, so that's no use.

Do a tour of charity shops, 2nd H shops, It's a Gifts, RockBottom stores. B&Q used to have a cutting service. 3 bit of Contiplas and some angle plates.

    Amazing - wisdom to all.

Shower step looks the sturdier option but a bit bulky. I prefer the look of one of the PC risers on Amazon, amazing coincidence  it's perfect dimensions for what I need.

It's rated at 10kg - however the weight of my amp will be distributed over the entire stand (importantly over the legs), so I doubt this would be too much a problem. Right?

On the monitor riser thing, I once made one with an Ikea shelf and 4 small legs screwed to the underneath. I think they were chair legs or something - def Ikea. You’d need longer legs but it worked brilliantly and cost bigger all

Put the amp on the table. Think of the amount of pedals you could fit underneath!

Ah, that'd be no use at all.  It'd be upside-down.

    I'll get me coat...

I had these made for me out of some offcuts from an oak worktop I’d bought for another job. My Pedaltrain Classic Jr fits underneath the taller one, the Nano under the other one.

  • I've been on a similar quest for about a year, for a 5e3, matching cab and 70cm pedalboard. Nothing is quite perfect  :'(

It depends - if the legs are hollow plastic mouldings (which is impossible to tell from the pics) then it might not be very strong at all, even with the weight directly over them.

Given the weight of the amp, I would look for something that's definitely rated for much more.

Good point  but if the legs look flimsy you are still 90% of the way home? Cut two  bits of 12-18mm ply/MDF to fill in the space inside the legs and No Nail them into place. Even 6mm ply would stand a serious load with that geometry.
