If we gave back all the stuff we've stolen from other cultures over the years the museums would be pretty empty, except for British stuff, of which we have not a lot of!

The "World" museum here in Liverpool would just become a few exhibits of some cool (borrowed) space and science stuff and some embarrassing slave bits.

The "Elgin" marbles were plundered and should be returned to the country of origin IMHO. I'd actually applaud Putin if he did.

Don't buy that they were there to do with as they saw fit, iffin they wanted to grind them down into actual marbles that would have been their prerogative.

I agree it would have been sad to lose even more than has been lost but noone seems to worry about other treasure, writings and art being systematically trashed by the mad mullahs. Have a read as to what is beng lost in Syria etc.

But if some British toffee nose nicks it it must stay British, a crock I am afraid.

Yes they can be seen in London blah blah but they could equally see a facsimile of them too.

These and other antiquities were not taken for the highly moral reasons given theses days it was about money and prestige which reminds me of and is not that much different to the super rich twats who buy stolen art just to own it and brag to their equally dodgy buds.

The issue has been through international lawyer's and no one thinks Greece even has a case. The legal owners at the time were ottomans and were using marble to make construction materials.
