I used to like Dilbert.
Sadly it stopped being enjoyable thanks to Scott.
Oh well...

My boss is obsessed with putting dilberts on the front page of presentations. I have been quite vocal about hating it but maybe i can stop caring now.

Obviously some of his views that emerged in recent years were an issue, but the guy was a complete genius.

    ^^ The Stepford Husbands.

Have to say, it's not much of a "tribute" thread, is it?  I didn't really know anything about this guy's views until he died.  Much like Brigitte Bardot the other week.

Same here. A bit nasty which seems to be the way at the moment in tfb.

I enjoyed his stuff in the 90s but lost track of it and him. He definitely brought a few chuckles to the world.

Agree with @Philly_Q – not knowing the guy, I assumed I might be clicking on this to learn about a musician I’d never heard of.

The posthumous pile-on thing is one of those internet habits I struggle with.

Oh, don't worry, we were rude about the racist Holocaust denier before he died. And Lance Armstrong too, so my lack of sorrow at his passing (hopefully a long time in the future but still before my death) will not be a strange blip in my attitude.

Likewise, I didn't know much about him, but I did remember his racist outbursts when they were made, but I have no perspective on the man himself and had no intentions to offend anyone if that's how it has come across.

I posted the tribute from the White House, as it's truly the most bizarre posthumous tributes I can recall seeing.  I'm still scratching my head about it and struggling to think who would have thought it was a good idea to include a Trump/Vance alongside Dilbert.

No offence taken here, and just to be clear, the "not much of a tribute" comment wasn't aimed at you. :)

And yes, the White House tribute was... totally nuts.

I knew that Adams became virulently anti-Chinese after his stepson died of a fentanyl overdose in 2018. (The way he ranted, you might have thought that the dealers had held the stepson at gunpoint, forcing him to ingest the stuff.

It is not difficult to see why Donald Trump's anti-Chinese stance would have attracted Adams to the 2016 Presidential campaign - to the extent that Adams appeared at publicity events and donated funds.

I was not aware that Adams had gotten into Holocaust denial. (Internationally syndicated cartoonist bites the hand that feeds him?) On the other hand, by then, I had ceased reading, watching or listening.

    EDIT
Cursory research suggests that Adams' act of (alleged) Holocaust denial was to question the veracity of the "official" statistics.

It is a safe bet that the Third Reich kept meticulous records of those whom they sent into forced labour. Whether they would have bothered to count those on their way to a mass grave - considered too old, young or infirm to be put to work - is another matter.

The truth is that we shall never know. Any number is too many.

Maybe, Adams was trying to be provocative? (He never suggested that the statistics were either exaggerated or under-estimated.

    tribute
    /ˈtrɪbjuːt/

    noun
    1. 1.
an act, statement, or gift that is intended to show gratitude, respect, or admiration.
"the video is a tribute to the musicals of the 40s"

If you don't like someone, why post in tributes?

You can do the hate thing in the politics section - that way, you don't have to wait until they are dead.

Dilbert was a creation of genius.  So much of what Adams wrote parodied corporate life perfectly.  I had no idea he had some controversial views but frankly, I don't give a fuck.  His works stand alone and I will continue to enjoy them in retrospect.

    RIP.
