Knobbers that talk loudly to their mates throughout gigs

Hanging’s too good for them. Why are they there? Just to show everyone what cunts they are?

And people that hold up their phones in front of you and film entire gigs. Should be minced.

Allegedly.

Agreed, and the twats that go to bar when the bands playing - pushing their way back though a packed crowd with pints in their hands. Are you there to watch the musicians or get drunk??
    Karma......

    Agree!

I've more sympathy with folks who go to the bar and back though, the venue's gotta make a living too, and it's perfectly possible to be drunk *and* enjoying the gig... just so long as you shut the fuck up...

Heard a great anecdote about a Nina Simone gig where a couple were talking - she stopped her song and said to them 'I'm sorry, am I singing too loudly for y'all?'

Needless to say, the couple buttoned it.

Unfortunately, I think we know the answer to that one!

The worst example of both the talking and drinking I’ve seen recently was Manics in Swansea, too many people who just fancied a night out and a belt along to ‘A Design for Life’ and just f’d around through everything else.

I once played a concert in São Paolo with my wife. Peoples' phones rang several times, so I told the audience to put them on silent or better still, switch them off.

All good, then 3 minutes later someone's phone went off and it took them 30 seconds to answer, during which time Polina and I stopped playing. She answered and proceded to talk (shout) to someone. I walked off stage into the audience. I took her phone from her.

I went back onstage and told the audience that we would leave the stage and not come back if any more phones rang during the show.

The concert organiser went onstage and spoke again in Portugese, telling the audience that they were disrespecting foreign artists and needed to comply. Afterwards he thanked me.

I behave like that. It's who I am.

When people laugh loudly during listening gigs, I stop and politely ask them to share the joke with the class.

@gearaddict you should try London gigs - it’s the same except half of them are coked of their faces too

  • That sort of behaviour has curtailed my gig going activities. I don’t want to police other people, but I also don’t want to be around drunken wankers either.

  • There were a dozen or so young women at the foot of the stage one of this weekend’s gigs,., every one with
their face in a phone,.. either filming us it filming themselves pouting, etc... they were dancing and engaged which was nice but … weird.

I had this at a gig a few weeks ago. A young, drunk woman dancing and filming us/herself from the dancefloor, stopped dancing and pointed her phone directly at me for about 20 seconds. I'm waiting to appear in a meme any time soon.

  • Was at a Fantastic Negrito gig last summer at a small, intimate little venue in Newcastle. During one of the quieter songs there was a couple loudly talking/laughing away and he just stopped the song. Said to them "sorry, this clearly isn't the right place for you. We musicians have spent our whole lives dedicating themselves to the craft, we deserve to be listened to. Speak to the guys on the door, they'll give you your money back and you can continue your conversation elsewhere." No warnings, no second chances.

You could tell everyone wanted to applaud, but everyone was scared in case they got booted out too!  =)

Considering there is a cost-of-living crisis, some people have way too much fucking money.

A ton for two gig tickets is average - and people come to drink hideously over-priced pints and sing along to the one song they know at the end.

It's annoying enough at the cinema (stopped me going in fact) but it's like some people feel obliged to leave their homes to act like they would at home in public...

Last time I was at the cinema, a family with three kids sat next to me and my son, and as the film started got out their phones and started talking to each other about what snacks to get... I challenged them on it and the guy said "they had to talk to each other".... needless to say I moved seats (fortunately it wasn't very busy)... but what a c**t.
I must be a narcissist, God knows that I can't resist, to make a song and dance about it?

It's annoying as a punter, just wanting to watch/listen/react to the musicians onstage. It's pretty annoying to me when I'm playing a small gig or doing an open mic, too.

I once announced a short solo set as "These are songs from my new EP - Songs To Have Your Conversations Over".

They took me at my word....  :s

Increasingly common at your big chain cinemas. I try and go to smaller ones now and the attendees are usually less like this. Sad but true.

Yeah in Northampton there is a smaller arty cinema and it's much better.

Big chains... to see a film you can stream in a month or so anyhow... sod that! :)

@darthed1981 Very true. It’s a shame, though, because I love a massive screen and surround sound. But so many chain cinemas seem run down and poorly looked after. I rarely buy snacks there and the tickets are usually affordable at the times I go.

I saw ‘One Battle After Another’ on 70mm recently and it was terrific. There’s no way I would’ve had the same experience at home, though I am looking forward to the 4k release!

One benefit of the inevitable... the chains are inevitably going to go, they have "failing business" written all over them, and even a Spiderman and Avengers film in the same year won't help much.  Cineworld are basically already bust, it's amazing they are still going.

This will leave cinema as a small, entirely film-experience focussed enthusiasts option, much more like theatre, focussing on presentation and hopefully with a sign at the door saying "zero tolerance for noisy c**ts".... :)

Yep, I have an Everyman membership, it may be wanky but it is a much better experience. Although they are now advertising on the Tube so the enshittification has started.

When I went to see Ball and Boe (and yes I've also mentioned Billy Ocean, Heather Small and The Jonas Brothers on here today) there were two ladies sat in front of us. They had a copy of the set list and had underlined a few songs they wanted to hear. Once they'd heard those they left. Now we had cheap tickets and maybe they did but if they didn't they had a £100+ night out just to hear Michael Ball murder a couple of songs from Les Miserables.
Certainly at other gigs loud talkers or people watching the entire event through their phones really piss me off. A phone screen in a darkened room held three feet in front of you is incredibly distracting.
