Some basic microtonal stuff, but nothing original or groundbreaking, there were Acid Mothers Temple, Secret Chiefs 3, uSSSy and King Gizzard for decades doing this on a higher level. Strap the costumes off and there would be at least 50% less appeal.

That being said, all of this wouldn't be too relevant to me if I have enjoyed their music, but there are no hooks and memorable parts, I literally forget the song when it's over. YMMV.
Hilarious. In an art form that rehashes and rehashes to be truly called out for being unoriginal you have to try playing different to everything else around. They should have stuck to 12 bar blues obviously.

    Interesting.

Of course, for the full polka dot experience they'd have to be joined by Buddy Guy.

A couple of questions come to mind.

How can you tell if they've played a bum note?
Will they be doing an unplugged session?

Volume II released today meaning the excellent ‘Sarniezz’ is finally playing in my car.

Honestly, I don't get what you're aiming at. Maybe it's because english is my second language, but I'm not sure.

Other than the use of microtones I don't hear that many similarities to the bands you list really.

AdP I hear as the most "approachable" take on microtonalism I've heard to date, By just using straight 1/4tones with very little harmony it doesn't get particularly challenging to listen to - the riffs are just plain catchy and groovy (with some great drumming of course). I think of it as a kind of punk sound just spicier. Along with the visuals and whole schtick, it's got fairly mass appeal potential.

The fact so many people are talking about microtones and 7/8 grooves is an awesome development, I hope they can maintain some popularity and start a "thing" - I'd much rather this become a movement than pretty much all other "guitar music" of the last 20 years or so.

I've sort of ignored these guys (?) as I assumed it's gimmicky rubbish. I just listened. Clearly it is gimmicky and very odd, but not rubbish (far better than Wet Leg for example)

I don't think I'll be listening again, but I'm glad that mad shit like this exists and it's good that the wider world occasionally gets exposed. Though I'll admit I'm dreading the now inevitable and likely-endless articles from the guitar mags on how to sound like AP as if anyone else on earth is going to be capable

Also the drummer is a beast.

Did anyone see DoomGong on KEXP? Similar fast guitar runs as ADP and King Gizzard style song structures.....

I didn't think much of that, but I do enjoy Angine de Poitrine.

Their outfits make me feel like I’m remembering something awful that happened to me that I’ve buried deep inside.

I know, it was just me commenting on the folks online (I know, guilty as charged) "look at that! microtonal! groundbreaking and new!" Nothing wrong with the band, I'm glad for them, but it's not new and -as I said before-, I don't find their music particularly memorable, and the new album feels like more of the same.

And it seems that they now got attention from the Supreme Vanilla Dad, Mr. Grohl. Expect some collaborations.

It was interesting to start with but gets far too repetitive and samey very quickly.

The drumming is also good but remarkably conventional compared to the guitar/bass.

Worth seeing once, but I wouldn't bother again, sorry.

This. Imagine listening to their music without video. No costumes, no microtonal frets and loopers to spot. Only music.

I'm just wondering if you think about whether you are gatekeeping and / or being elitist, and also if you think the worth of a piece of art is objective.
