Starting to gear up for an 80s show in May, so the week I've been listening to Sweet Dreams, Sledgehammer, Let's Dance, Like a Prayer, and Everybody Wants to Rule The World.

The last of those had completely passed me by in the past - it's got some decently tricky syncopated guitar stuff that I'm loving

The bridge break from Sir Duke on bass. It’s one I think you need to nail perfectly. And I’m a lazy sod for just going with a “theme of” sound.

I'd like to have a crack at that if I ever get back into bass. Super bass lines throughout!

I'm trying to relearn all the stuff I could play perfectly well until my fingers and brain divorced last year and haven't been on speaking terms ever since :s

Last week or so I've been learning Easy Lover for a bit of 80s fun. Song = easy, Solo = not so much

Plugging away at about 75% speed at the moment.

Last few days been working on the solo from 'Walking by Myself' Gary Moore.

Ridiculously fast bit in the middle of it - which I won't be attempting note for note...need to make up something to cover it up.

New singer wants to do Born to Run, now I don't like Springsteen but I have enjoyed learning this and like it well enough. Of singer wants it transposed down a tone to D but no great shakes really.

mississippi blues - Willie brown (finished I think)
slow drag - rev. Gary davis / Willie walker (just started yesterday)

I'm currently trying to learn/arrange a load of my own stuff on guitar (and some piano) so i could pull off a one man setlist of my own music if required and if possible.

But I'm also trying to relearn the Strokes Vision of Division, initially was to do in the cover challenge letter V theme but i think I'll take too long with the solo and some of the riff parts are a bit clumsy

A bit of a random different direction, but I've got two long lists of things to learn for my piano job.

Firstly I've been booked to do a Neil Sedaka solo piano + vocal tribute show in October which I'm very excited for even though it obviously is at odds with my attempts for street cred. 45 mins of Sedaka tunes, then 45 mins of related piano and vocal tunes, Carole King, Brill Building songs, bit of Billy Joel and Elton etc  Pure cheese but I'm looking forward to it.

And secondly I've been sent a list of 22 Indian/Hindi/Bollywood tunes to learn on piano for a wedding later in the year which I'm very much looking forward to doing. I played one of them a few days ago at another wedding and it was beautiful (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai) so I'm looking forward to the variety and learning process

Currently learning really daft stuff for solo acoustic - mainly lyrics with new vocal melodies as I've completely changed the arrangements and now have to relearn new versions of stuff I already know. The list includes:

Easy listening jazz version of Psychosocial by Slipknot
The Bad Touch by Bloodhound Gang and Breaking The Law as sensitive acoustic ballads
Just Can't Get Enough by Depeche Mode
    Ice Ice Baby

Piano - Angel eyes by Jim Brickman. Cheesy generic title but it’s a nice piece.
