Listing a privately owned guitar in classifieds that is to be sold via a dealer?

Would me placing a post in the classifieds section for a guitar personally owned by myself but only available for sale in a local dealer be acceptable?

The instrument is up for commission sale by the aforementioned dealer, and I am private individual - most certainly not a trader! I'm selling this way as I do not wish to expose myself to the pitfalls of a private sale (timewasters, postage logistics/problems, fraud, etc), but I would like to increase the guitar's exposure to a wider audience.

Would this be fair use of the forum?

For the commission the shop is taking from you id be expecting them to do the exposure work. 

Have they posted it on their social media pages? Website? EBay? Reverb?

Interesting question.  If I remember right, in the past when people have posted links to eBay ads, or whatever, in the classifieds they've been asked... not to.  It's fine for something to also be for sale elsewhere, but I think it needs to be properly listed here as well.

They have not used any channels other than their own website, as far as I am aware. That approach has not been a success thus far, so I am waiting to hear from them what other ideas they may have. I may take it elsewhere, but will not be able to do so for a while so wondered whether the suggested approach might help in the meantime.

That's fair, thanks for the reply.

I wasn't sure, and felt it could be considered a borderline case of fair use. I'd be promoting my instrument for sale, not the dealer standing to make a commission fee, so it'd be for my benefit just like any other private sale classified ad... the difference being that I'd be paying a commission for someone else to handle the logistics.

Anyhow, no worries.. I'm glad I asked. Thanks for all your responses!
