Feels like we should enforce some guitar redistribution, in order to meet OP's diktat

Does this mean I have to buy some backup teles?

I've got a few id happily sell if I could, or even give to charity.

Way more guitars in the world than there is demand for right now!

I’d keep my current only guitar a Strandberg Boden essential.
I’d add an airline bighorn, a telecaster, a rickenbacker 650, danelectro dano pro (th two pickup version).

I’ve changed my mind on these…..
Nashville style Tele, and replace the SSS Strat with my Les Paul Melody Maker (basically a thin bodied Junior with a Tunomatic & stop tail) setup for slide… dug it out the other day and haven’t stopped playing it since. My wife and the local cat population probably wish I hadn’t :)

  • Very difficult, but if we're talking money-no-object, and absolute best examples I could possibly find be they vintage or not, I think I could manage with;

    Gibson Les Paul Custom
    Gibson SG
Gibson Les Paul Junior, double or singlecut depending on which one I ended up liking most after trying both (theme emerging, I know)
Fender Telecaster (Blackguard style with the beefier bridge pickup)
    EGC 500 Acrylic

That would cover all my favourites and then the EGC is something completely beautiful and different to have access to unusual tones.

@NickBotfield yes, though the strat was what started my guitar playing so it seems appropriate to keep it. In reality I've theoretically got space for 3 more guitars, and they would probably be a HH superstrat, a Les Paul and then a wild card

That if the LP has P90s, or if the LP has humbuckers I'd be tempted to go for something with P90s instead of the 335...

    Ok here goes.

American Special Strat HSS ( modded)
    Yamaha SA2000S
    Feline Phat Tabby T.
    Yamaha SG1000
    PRS Custom 22

Ive just been in the Studio and my HSS Strat, Feline & Yamaha SA2000S were joined by my CS Strat and a Taylor AD14CE. I also borrowed a J45 copy for strumming parts.

    Good point @Dave_Mc ;

Maybe an Epiphone Casino instead of the 335 would be a good shout.

I would try and have 5 guitars that offer 5 different things sonically, but I suppose with the tone knob etc, you can make 1 guitar do for lots of different sounds. But maybe something like:
    A strat
A tele (a strat can sound like a tele and vice versa)
A humbucker guitar (335 or LP or SG, or you could get a HSS strat!)
    Something with filtertron style pickups
Something with P90s or lipstick pickups (a Danelectro Convertible for a hollow body with a lipstick!)

Or out of the 5 make sure 1 is a semi hollow or full hollow body, for something different.

If you are a metal head, something with a locking trem system.

    - MiM Strat
    - The Tele I put together
    - Les Paul
    - ES 339
    - Taylor GS Mini

I don’t have much more than that at the moment. If I had a Jaguar — a proper one, not the abominations Fender IP handlers seem to think we deserve — I would possibly chuck the Tele, but it’d be a close contest.
My opinions in context: I rarely gig and don't play guitar for a living. I record my own music for a non-profit org's research and education videos. I have modified or built most of my equipment and I owe a big debt of gratitude to many people on this forum (you know who you are!).

    Needs more P90s and/or trons!

I usually only play one or two guitars anyway, 99% of the time, but...

    - A great Singlecut/LP type - my PRS SC semi-hollow ltd. is currently filling this role nicely.
    - Gibson CS Trini Lopez reissue - I love this thing, it'll be with me till I die and is likely the only electric I'll ever say that about.
    - Collings I-30LC - their version of the ES-330/Casino.  Hollow-body and P90s is basically tonal heaven, I expect this would be another keeper, alongside my existing Trini
    - A good Jazzmaster - I miss my Troy van Leeuwen sig. so let's say another one of those or something similar.
    - Gretsch White Falcon, because why not? Preferably a singlecut model with super'trons and cadillac tailpiece.

*edit* additionally, add a PRS/L.R. Baggs piezo option onto all of the above. It's not perfect, but the system adds a tonne of versatility to any guitar.
