What are the chords to this?

Were working on a cover of this - i am trying to put the guitar part together...... any help gratefully appreciated
I have it as 
A* A* A* A* D* D* A* A* D* D* Dmin Dmin Dmin Dmin Cmin Cmin Cmin Cmin Gmin Gmin Gmin..... that repeats while the main horn line repeats - in the lengthy solo section i think the guitar plays Gmin Gmin Cmin Cmin repeatedly and later A* A* G* G*...

Any help gratefully appreciated

I'd like to start by saying i've only had a brief listen as I tried to follow your chords to see how close you were.

Your chords were there abouts but I actually found myself a little too distracted by trying to figure out your notation.

Here's a few points which I think are quite relevant on a music theory forum....

Firstly, the sharp symbol is a # and not a *

This may seem picky, but I initially read your chart as A and D, not A# and D# which lead me to believe that you were a semitone out.

Secondly, as a general rule you don't have two of the same note in any given key. This means that both a D# and a Dm is an indication that something is a bit wrong, in this case your key is Bb rather than A#, making the D# an Eb (because we don't mix sharps and flats in keys either).

This makes the whole thing much easier to read. 

Lastly, not essential but again helpful when notating... The use of this: | 

This symbol works very well to help divide your chords into bars:

But as I said before, your chords sounded about right to me.

I used to play this in a band but so long ago I'd have to start pretty much from scratch. Ours was based on The Specials version and I'm pretty sure in A as I would play the theme from Bonanza as a guitar solo.

Is this from 6th string backwards or first string forwards? I only ask as havent had a chance to have a mess with it yet.

Thank you @Evo. i am self taught and am really starting out in terms of music theory so that's really helpful....joining a band has been a steep learning curve, especially with trained piano and saxophone players. I am really trying to improve my ear by listening and working thing out. I am quite proud of getting close on this - clearly need to work out a better way of writing stuff down.

You ever work up a good version of ghost town @EricTheWeary? Lots of orchestration and a prominent synth line. We've been playing the b-side Friday night, saturday morning..... really enjoying that.

You did a great job, and as you say, it’s all a learning curve. 

It can be a bit confusing but I’ll try to clarify a little as there’s a slight (but quite understandable) misunderstanding. 

You can have sharps and minors in the same key, these refer to two different things. 

A sharp or a flat can refer to a note or a chord: meaning you can have D sharp and B major in the same key with no problem because major and minor both refer to a group of notes such as a chord (or a scale, or an arpeggio, or a key). 

What you can’t have is a mix of sharps and flats, and you can only have one of each note. So this means D# and D aren’t allowed because they’re both “D”. So what we would do is replace the D# with an Eb, and likewise switch all the other sharps to their equivalent flats. 

Not something worth worrying about to be honest, but it’s a good rabbit hole to go down.

Hope I'm not being a bit stupid,but isnt it better to ask 'What intervals are these?' In fact isnt that better with all songs instead of exact chords? Giving everybody the opportunity to match it to their voice or style etc.
