Coffee Thread

What's Hot
rsvmarkrsvmark Frets: 1710
Evening all. After a bit of a search, which didn’t yield any results, can I ask if there is a coffee thread for those who want to go down that particular rabbit hole?

That is nowhere near enough, or you’re drinking it from an egg cup!

Might as well just drink hot water.

Life is too short for instant coffee. Why have cotton when you can have silk?

In Italy, instant coffee is called 'sporco', which means dirty.

Let's have no more discussion of it.

I used Nespresso pods for convenience for years, but the fact that the coffee isn't that good combined with the fact that a plastic/aluminium pod is terrible for the environment nudged me towards a bean to cup machine.

I've a Delonghi Magnifica Evo which fits the bill very well. I've the grind fineness set how I like for the beans I use, and barring needing the percolation chamber cleaned occasionally it's very low maintenance and makes good coffee. I also now have the option of doing a decent cappuccino or latte when we have guests round (I don't drink milky coffee myself).

I get a kilogram bag of locally roasted beans from the coffee shop round the corner about once every 6 weeks

I've got an ACS Vesuvius and a Niche Zero, had them for about 6 years - would recommend both, been faultless. Current favourite bean is the Millionaires Honduras from cworks.co.uk.

I'm a big fan of the local coffee shop's blend (Kafenion in Bournville), or their Christmas one which has a bit of a fruity taste. It's greek influenced but supposedly has a chocolate influence as well as it overlooks Cadbury.

I have some from Bali to try soon though, bought them last year. I didn't like the one that the animals shit out. I think we have a vanilla one and a standard one.

I make it in a sort of Moka pot which i think is supposed to make 6 espressos, but it's more like double what you'd have in the average latte I'd say. Equal amounts coffee and velvetiser frothed milk or oat milk, teaspoon of maple syrup or honey.

I realise this last paragraph will probably offend, I expect Raymond will come by shortly and after my matcha techniques the other day, I fear for myself

I was in Cardiff Market on the day of the Wales Italy rugby game trying to decide which of the excellent street food stalls was getting my custom that day. I passed a really traditional greasy spoon place and I was shocked to see a couple of Italian fans at the counter ordering coffees and being served mugs of Nescafe…

I only got into coffee in my 30s after never really drinking hot drinks, now I love it but not in the sense of chasing a caffeine hit.  I like the mindfulness of making a good cup and the fact that there are so many ways make it a pretty fun and affordable hobby.  I've got a V30, Aeropress, cafetieres of various sizes, a Flair Classic manual espresso maker, a basic Delonghi espresso machine, yer basic Bialetti moka pot, and my brother brought me back a džezva from Bosnia which is basically the same vessel they use for Turkish coffee.

A Sunday ritual is a moka pot espresso latte and some nice croissant or pain au chocolat.

I have an espresso machine and modded a grinder to get a finer grind to avoid using the pressurised ‘cheat’ portafilters.

When I need to have instant it’s for a one minute to prepare hit using a small cup of milk and Nescafé Alta Rica which is the only one I find palatable.

I have the same machine, @strtdv ;- very impressed with it.

I use Bellarom Espresso Blend (strength 5). I think it's Lidl's own brand but it makes a perfect coffee for my tastes.

I use a cheap electric grinder and an aeropress if I'm making a coffee for myself, or a cafetiere if I'm making several cups. Works for me, and that's all I care about.
I don't mind an instant coffee either, although I don't keep it in the house; I got some Christmas spiced instant for Christmas last year, and it was really nice.
Too much gain... is just about enough \m/

We’ve got a bean to cup machine in the office that is pretty good. As long as the beans are good.

I only drink espresso for proper coffee.

At home I like Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Sumatra Mandheling fresh ground coffee.

3 heaped spoonfuls per person in a cafetière, with not a lot of water.

For non proper coffee (more like a soft drink), 1 heaped spoonful of Kenco Smooth instant coffee. A splash of milk. Fill the mug halfway with water. Fill the rest with Baileys. 2 sugars.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

What route are you going down? Gold Blend or hand grinding South Ethiopian beans roasted yesterday and filtered with a pour-over with 6.7ph water at 94c?

I used to have a 6-cup moka pot every morning. With two sugars and condensed milk. Then I found out that most of my travel anxiety was actually caffeine overload.

Now I have a hot chocolate instead.

There is an excellent local small roastery/coffee bar on the ground floor, I was tempted to suggest they go there if they wanted a Cardiiff coffee experience.

My sister overheard the same group trying to order “meatballs ”… we call them faggots down ‘ere mun!
