Q: what's pink and long and throbs in your bins?

What's Hot
robertyroberty Frets: 12546
A: this bass I made

The body came as is from MJT. I finished the neck (Allparts) with nitro spray cans, tarnished the hardware, yellowed the pickguard and did the decal in Illustrator

The nut and frets need work but playable as is. I'll get around to it

    Lovely.

Have you tried putting it together with an Otter's Pocket?   ;)

Thanks mate. Wouldn't normally go for it either but sometimes you've got to to what the instrument wants

    Definitely.

The only thing I would have done different would be really lightweight tuners. But I do that to everything.

Nice. It reminds me of the Shell Pink Jazz Bass I had in the 90s.

Good job. I've asked this before but I don't think I got an answer. Why do some some bass strings have cotton material wrapped around the strings at the machine end? I'm not a bass player but my one and only bass does and not sure what strings to get when I change them.

Sometimes to stop the string from unravelling, sometimes just to separate different strings that a brand makes. Depends on the string construction and the maker.

Lots of rounds don't have silks, but every flat I can think of does. Flats are at more risk of unravelling, but so are roundwounds that have a round core instead of hex.

I had the lightweight Gotoh ones in my cart for a little while but I had a panic about dead spots and backed out. The neck is super solid as it happens, nothing sympathetic about it lol

I think pink on a Fender guitar works well. It's traditional, considering their colours were initially based around the Cadillac colours at the time. I've a shell pink Telecaster and a shell pink Silver Sky so it looks correct on both guitars. Most of my guitars are black, which can be a bit boring I suppose.

The right pink on the right instrument is amazing.

I’m strongly considering a refin on my Firebird to heather most poly…

Was just saying to Wes it'd be worth getting a pink Explorer for the pun potential alone

Agreed about Fender (or Fender-style) with pink. I think that about black guitars too, but to be fair, much like @stickyfiddle ;;said about pink, when black suits a guitar it usually really suits it and looks totally badass.

Also for some weird reason I always feel black is boring on a Strat but pretty nice on a Tele. I think it might be the fretboard, black Strats usually come with maple (which is boring) while black Teles often come with rosewood (which isn't). EDIT: It also might just be that black Strats are pretty common and black Teles are much less so.

Just so the pitchforks don't come out, to clarify there, I just mean with black. I actually probably prefer maple to rosewood most of the time, just not with a black Strat (or Tele)!
