scale sequences study

hi all

hope you are all well

i'm looking for resources, probably online of scale studies.  so what i mean by this is not different types of musical scales, like harmonic minor or modes, i know that content.  more along the lines of exercises that you can apply to that scale. hopefully something i can play along to.  i am actively looking, but thought i'd reach out here in case someone here already knows and can share.

hi digital, thanks. kind of, i think its sequences i'm looking for. anyway i've bookmarked it, because i remember he did some video articles for guitar world, and there is some good content there, so one to add!

If you dig into one of the sections, e.g. http://martingoulding.com/lessons/picking/index.html , you'll see it's pretty sequential.

GT mag series was called 'Metal Bootcamp', iirc

I 100% recommend booking some lessons with Martin.

I wanted to reboot my playing and learn properly after decades of blagging. I have regular lessons with Martin and the 3NPS 7 position system is imprinted into my brain for the modern rock technique exercises and practice routines.

It might seem a bit daft, but can you work some out for yourself?

e.g. for pentatonics

1. go up 3 notes, go back down 1, go up 3, etc.
2. go down 3 note, go back up 1, go down 3, etc.
3. go up 4, down 2, etc.
4. (from John Cordy) go up 6, down 2, up 6, etc.

The boring part is playing it in time.

Plus you can add to the above, sliding up/down between 'shapes' to go up and down the fingerboard.

What about some Paul Gilbert sequences?  His playing is full of these.

Learn the intervals of the notes, it will be more beneficial in the long term than scale sequences.
