Not saying they don't deserve the recognition by any stretch, but if they keep inducting that many bands and artists each year they are going to run out soon aren't they?

    About bloody time (Joy Division).

Atmosphere really is one of the greatest songs ever recorded imo.

Don't begrudge it for Oasis either.

I watched last year's induction ceremony cos I'm a huge White Stripes fan, I like Soundgarden and Cyndi Lauper's music is a bit of a guilty pleasure, but even then it was a hard watch. It was like watching things like the Oscars or Grammys but without the surprise of who's going to win

It's actually Joy Division / New Order - which makes a bit more sense given the electronic / pop genre they kinda helped pioneer? Even still, most people would struggle to name a single Joy Division song other than Love Will Tear Us Apart?

and...Thin Lizzy, Motorhead, Motley Crue still not in?
    ...she's got Dickie Davies eyes...

Yeah, but Joy Division (and New Order) were an influential band, and they are still influencing young people today. Martin Hannett should have been included too, as he was a big part of their sound.

Does this mean that Bernard Sumner will share a stage with Peter Hook?

Is Peter Hook a pirate who never grows up?

I think you're getting him confused with Captain Pan.

  • About time!
JD are my absolute favourite band.
Even with their limited output some of their stuff is fantastic.
Was really into NO especially in the ‘80’s but always preferred JD.
Hooky has said he is going, so it will be interesting to see if Barney turns up.
Met Hooky a couple of times, the last time after one of his “Peter Hook and the light” gigs and he signed my JD “still” album and about 8 of my New order 12” singles, top bloke.

Joy Division are just simply wonderful.
For me, all New Order albums up to Technique are fantastic too, even Movement. New Order were huge in America, so I'm surprised they haven't made the hall of fame earlier.

Peter Hook - possibly m favourite bass player, can't count the number of times I've seen the Light live - they put on a superb show. I saw the recent Joy DIvision orchestrated show at Manc Apollo - it was incredible.

I managed to bag the last available Peter Hook signature Yamaha signature bass a few years ago. Best bass I've had. Got it direct from Yamaha following a tip off from this forum. Well chuffed. Best £950 I've spent.

This reminds me of a quote I heard a few years ago, can’t remember who said it, but was something like “all new bands today either sound like Joy Division or New Order”.
A guitar doesn't care how good you are, all it asks for is it's played.

Same sentiments as me @Snap although i’m not a fan of everything NO have put out,
for me, P,C&L is superb and Brotherhood.
My favourites though are the full length Everythings Gone Green, Procession and Ceremony - bloody brilliant.
I hope we get the long awaited Joy Division box set too, though the longer hooky and barney dont talk, the more i think we’ll have to wait.
And i would love an official release of the Bains Douche gig - thats bloody brilliant in my opinion.

Really enjoyed Stephen Morris's books on JD and NO - worth a read if you're a fan. Absolutely bonkers that they made such innovative electronic music with what by today's standards would be extremely primitive gear.

I am actually about 3/4 way through his second book, he's a really entertaining writer, v funny.

All Peter Hook's books are brilliant too, was surprised at the amount of technical info that's in them too.

However, Bernard Sumner's book is REALLY dull.

Tbh, Sumners a bit of a narky sod anyway.
I’ve met hooky a couple of times and he was brilliant.
When i met New Order though Sumner was grumpy as shit, whereas Gillian,Steven and Hooky were great.
Saw New Order in Wolverhampton too in the mid 80’s and Sumner was in a foul mood - i think he called some of the audience cunts, and towards the end of the gig threw his strat across the stage, walked off, no encore nothing.

As a resident of Stockport, I still get a bit giddy every time I walk past Strawberry Studios, even if it has been offices for years. Kevin Cummins iconic pics captured a Manchester that's no longer recognisable but its one that I remember as a yoof well, early 80s weekend treks with mates exploring old warehouses and lesser known nooks and crannies. My mates Aunty was going out with Kevin and he gave us tons of photos, a box full of them, all sorts of groups Id never heard of, I just remember being struck by the photos of Ian and Mark E Smith as they had unusual faces. I never really knew of JD at the time but I recall at a house party around 83-84 Kevin and Tony Wilson talking to us two 12 year olds over the dinner table about which bands we should be listening to. Wish I still had the pics!
