Got to be worth a punt, right? Laurel fretboard isn't filling me with joy but I should be able to smooth/polish/darken it - then hopefully forget about it.

I have the dog ear P90's that came in my USA Casino, and drawers full of pots, knobs and jacks should a swap seem beneficial.

Actually fancied the Gibson exclusive 66 model (RW fretboard and batwing headlock) but out of stock in the acceptable colours.

The USA models somehow look worse than the cheapos.

Strangely excited about this - a guitar that costs less than most of my pedals!

Cheap can be very cheerful :). I’ve never been a big fan of the look of them, but it’s a perfect example of a simple guitar that - barring a real oddity with the wood, which is quite rare - can’t really not sound good!

You're fine for £200 but I just wanna know... Who gave the thumbs up for laurel =)

G&L went for caribbean rosewood and it looks odd on a solid colour, plasticky guitar, but at least its pretty

    HNGD!

Be interested to hear what you think of it.

Some people think a one pick up guitar is limiting, but lets be honest - who every uses the neck pick up on a Telecaster?  I never used a bridge pick up on a strat.

Me. I would like to be able to get on with an Esquire - so I could remove the switch and make the control layout more usable - but I miss the neck pickup.

It’s not *that* limiting, but given the choice I would always rather have both.

Likewise, I use the bridge pickup on a Strat too - although I prefer an at least slightly hotter one.

Yeah, I like the Tele neck pickup.  And the neck plus bridge setting.

But anyway, the Epiphone looks cool.  Can't be anything other than a bargain.

I love the neck pickup on my Tele build. What’s wrong with that sound, if I may ask?
My opinions in context: I rarely gig and don't play guitar for a living. I record my own music for a non-profit org's research and education videos. I have modified or built most of my equipment and I owe a big debt of gratitude to many people on this forum (you know who you are!).

I have the Crestwood from the same reissue release and it's a very good guitar that punches well above its cost. I was pleasantly surprised by the build quality - the only flaw is a slightly dodgy pickup selector switch but I use the volume controls to choose pickup so it's not a big issue. The mini humbuckers in the Crestwood are superb, I couldn't tell the difference from the Gibson versions in the LP Deluxe. Re the fretboard, I darkened it down using Monty's Ageing wax quite successfully. I hope you're as pleased with your Coronet.

I think the neck pickup on a Tele is perfectly fine though it's a bit polite compared to the bridge pickup. It works well for clean country sounds, indie and probably even jazz too, but I know most of the time when I'm switching from bridge to neck I'm looking for a thick lead tone, and the standard pickup isn't the best at that.

I've got 3 Teles and only 1 has a Tele neck pickup, the other 2 are a Firebird pickup and a Filtertron which I think most people will find more useful

Funny you should mention that, I was thinking earlier about what Teles I have... I've got a Fender Hot Rod with the Seymour Duncan mini-humbucker (or Firebird, I don't know which model it actually is) in the neck position, and another with a Lollar Firebird.  I'm not sure if I actually like those pickups, but it has been a long time since I've plugged in and actually heard them.

Good to hear - I don't have a switch to work about! I My concern with the Laurel is it has a tendency to not be particularly smooth - at least in my sample size of one so far - Squier 12 string JM.

Think I'm going to lightly sand the fretboard (and roll the edges) with P400 then go through the micro mesh grades, then dark brown Fiebling's leather dye which should sort it. Also have Monty's ageing way and instrument food so confident I'll be able to improve it.

Don't even have it yet, but despite the terrible listing photos, I can see the fretboard needs some work.

Sorry Gagaryn, I seem to have sidetracked your thread with a throwaway comment in jest.

Anyhoo...  My 12yo has an Epiphone Casino Coupe with dog ear P90s.  It can really rock, neck pickup is great and the V&T controls have the best usable range I think I have ever come across.

It's a great price, will be good to hear how it plays

I've liked all the ones I've played, for basic one pickup junior styles. Would have been nice if they'd done the slab-side body on these as well as the expensive ones, but that's life.
