I’ve got one of those Epiphone Coronets. I bought it for slide, so mine has heavier strings and a higher action now. However when I first got it and played it as a ‘normal’ guitar I was very pleased with it. Neck is quite chunky, fine for slide and if that’s your preference. I’ve played lots of gigs and rehearsals with it with no problems.

That Coronet looks great at a good price. I've always liked the look of them and might pick one up in future.
    Looking forward to hearing your thoughts when you get it @Gagaryn ;

Interesting to hear that these supposedly sound decent out the box. I presumed the pots and pickup would be cheapo stuff that would benefit from an upgrade.

Did a bit of digging and the pickup is supposedly OK (good because the Gibson potential replacement was too dark for me, at least in the Casino it same out of), and they come fitted with CTS 500k pots, albeit both linear - looks like wired 50s style with the cap connected to volume output. I will need to see how this works in the guitar. Linear seems odd, especially for the tone.

Spent 150 quid + parts on a setup last week... this is mad really!

So it finally arrived as despite listing a guitar for delivery on eBay, the seller left it until after the listing ended to consider shipping materials. After a good few days,  he decided wrapping the guitar in a big sheet of single wall cardboard would be good enough. Unsurprisingly the guitar took a battering - volume pot shaft smashed through the knob and the back of the pot knocked off. Considered returning as Thomann have these new for about £300 but seemed like too much hassle and gave me an excuse to "age" it a bit!

Guitar was filthy and at the same time too shiny! Decided to rub the whole thing down with ultra fine Scotch-brite, fretboard and all. Laurel fretboard was quite rough, grey and dry but the Scotch-brite smoothed it nicely and dyed with Fieblings - which also stained the dot markers! Finished taking the shine off all the hardware with vinegar in a double tub. Needed to change the volume pot so decided just to replace all the electronics and the pickup. Truss rod was completely loose - actually thought it was broken but eventually tightened. Nut wasn't bad but says a touch high so sorted that. Frets just needed polished.

Now plays great and sounds immense. Fun guitar and matches my Firebird!

Well, if that was the only damage at least you know it's strong enough to be giggable. Why are some people such complete idiots?

Wow, the delivery and receipt experience sounds a nightmare but you've made a sterling job of fixing it up!  I like those yellowed dot inlays.

The yellow dots surprised me - I expected it to wipe off but these are properly stained. Not had that happen before.

Forgot to mention - the card wrapper was suspiciosly light - I thought maybe only half the guitar was left! Not weighed it but there is not a lot to it!

With hindsight, I'm kind of glad it arrived rough - gave me an excuse to go at it! It really looks and, more importantly, feels like a well loved old guitar now.

I love it, wondering now why all my other guitars cost >10x this one!

He was probably spending that time trying to find a big enough envelope... you're lucky he didn't find one!

Glad it amazingly turned up with so little damage (considering), and it looks great now you've sorted it out. Great work :)

Done a good job of it - I also prefer the yellow inlays, as it works with the gold logo.

Words fail me regarding the sender.

Yup. I requested a return with eBay and have the label. Did that before I decided it wasn't worth my trouble. I haven't told him though, will pass on the good news further down the line. Letting him sweat... :-)

Looks great. I love what you have done with the fretboard.

I quite fancy one of those in my future.

I had a white crestwood that I paid £200. Was ok, got moved on quick for the same on Reverb I think.

    HNGD!

Be interested to hear what you think of it.

Some people think a one pick up guitar is limiting, but lets be honest - who every uses the neck pick up on a Telecaster?  I never used a bridge pick up on a strat.
I live on the Tele neck pickup for jazzy things. Roll off some tone and you are in bebop city, daddy-o.
    Or something.

Good gamble on the sale & well done on the clean up too  :)
Was it Fiebings leather dye you used & was it a particular colour ?

    HNGD!

Great photo of the two of them together as @Ddigger said. Really compliment one another.

A Firebird never was something I thought I would ever buy. But since watching a couple of Robert Baker videos last year, I’ve been taking a much keener interest in them. They just look & sound great,
