FS: Montblanc 146 Fountain Pen

What's Hot
GassageGassage Frets: 34058

Yes, it’s a Montblanc. Yes, that little white blob on the cap is meant to be a snowcap, not a daisy your toddler drew. Yes, “Meisterstück” means “masterpiece,” because the Germans aren’t ones for false modesty when they’ve correctly identified that they make a very good pen.

This is the 146, the slightly-smaller-than-the-149 model favoured by men who’ve decided ballpoints are for people without inner lives. The 14k gold nib glides across paper with the smug confidence of something that costs more than your last three pairs of trainers combined. It will make your shopping lists look like the Treaty of Westphalia.

Condition: very, very good. Which is to say loved, used, and not pristine, because actual pristine ones live in display cases owned by men who don’t write anything except their own name on Christmas cards. This pen has filed expense reports, signed birthday cards, and probably drafted at least one strongly-worded letter to a parish council. It works. It writes. The piston fills like it did the day it left Hamburg.

You will not become a better writer for owning it. You will, however, look approximately 14% more serious in meetings, and any document you sign will feel mildly more legally binding than it actually is.

Pairs beautifully with: leather notebooks, unfinished song lyrics, the setlist you’ll never actually use because you’ll just shout the next song at the drummer anyway, and letters to Mojo magazine complaining about the lack of Beatles coverage.

Comes as photographed. No box because life happened. No regrets either. Someone kindly bought me the solid silver version of this, hence selling.

I like the daisy on top. If I could read or write, I could be very tempted.

    This is a good price for a 146, if anyone’s wondering…

I love my 146 (a gift from Mrs W) and can vouch for its ability to make drafting a strongly worded missive to a faceless council functionary an absolute joy. GLWTS.
I'll get a round to buying a 'real' guitar one day.

Wouldn't expect anything less from his nibs.

    Beautiful.
I do like a lovely ink pen. I've got a couple of nice old Sheaffers up in a box in a drawer. I should sell them.
From memory I had a nasty habit of dropping the things and bending the nibs... so I'm a crap custodian.
Plus I never writing things these days except illegible to do notes to self.
