9v battery question for emg

The partscaster is almost finished, just waiting on the EMG T type pickups to arrive. I’ve been pondering where to shove the 9v battery. Whilst pondering I decided to have a look at other battery options, now obviously a pp3 is the standard use case but what about some of the smaller cylindrical 9v batteries? An L1022 is 21mmx10mm and 10a,, any reason why it wouldn’t work? I’d have to make a little spring holder for it but it’d take up a lot less space. I’d imagine there are other 9v out there as well

Might be worth looking at capacity.

    L1022 is about 60mAh, PP3 is typically 500-700mAh.

It’s maddening, according to thegearpage ( bloody odd over there) some people have used A23 12v batteries ( sometimes 2 for 24v mod), that might be a better option. Shall investigate further. I only play at home really so mega capacity is not an issue other than I don’t want it running out. I have thought of fitting a rechargeable pp3 in the unused Nashville slot under the pickguard and making a little door to get at the usb port

The A23 type work fine & I got a convertor to take two at once for a cleaner more oomphy 24v 'boost'.
    Same as these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/198082317765?
Fits (snugly) inside the standard back control cavity of an otherwise non modded Epi. Explorer.

I shall head to rs components and order some options and see what I can come up with, ta for the info on the a23, seems like a good option. I might order some rechargeable pp3 anyway for the Charvel

Might you not be able to run a connector lead from the pickups out to a battery holder on the bottom/end of the guitar or strap ?

Yeah , that’d work, not as neat though, I’ve ordered a usb c m to f panel mount for an experiment, some a23 and a battery holder and some other bits and bobs

I had an idea to use the output jack hole for the battery holder , like a screw in torch type port and fit the output jack on the back like my charvel

It shouldn’t be an issue - battery life is years or even decades for EMGs. I’ve had to replace quite a few where the battery died from old age before it was actually drained, even a couple where the owner genuinely had no idea there was even a battery in there until the instrument finally stopped working aeons after being bought!

Yeah, it’s supposed to be about 1000 hours of play on a battery. I’ve just fitted some EMG’s with the battery under a Strat type pickguard, so not easy to get to, but that should last me at least 3 years so not bothered. So even with a much smaller mAh you’d be ok. Interested on how you get on with different battery types.

Quick test of a pp3 in the middle route , its a snug fit so thats certainly an option. Will do some more experimenting with the other option tomorrow.

Yep, just don't forget to unplug the guitar every time, or the battery lifespan isn't so great  ;)

But that'd drop to 100 hours with an L1022.

Just fit a 2.1mm dc socket and power it from your board…

You still have the fixed bridge Pro Mod Style 2?

I cannot believe that I have not suggested modifying it with a pair of EMG H, HA, HX or HAX pickups.

Compare the specifications of the EMG-RTC, -S and -H pickups. They are identical. Likewise, the -RT, -SA and -HA.

Converting to EMG single coil sounds requires you to sacrifice tge Fishman Fkuence "voice" switching  and a little material from tgr corners of tbe neck pickup cut out in the pickguard.

I've got a couple of cables I designed that are powered that way. One is designed for IEM's and has a headphone amplifier near where the cable plugs into the guitar. The other is an active guitar cable. Converts any guitar into in an active guitar. It has a pre amp with low Z output in a small block near where the cable plugs into the guitar. So the guitar is only passive for 2 inches or so.

Regarding EMG's ... with a 3 pickup guitar I would change the batteries around every 3 to 4 years when doing aroung 70 gigs a year. I had normally worn out the volume control in the same period so that got changed as well.

CPC do a good range of batteries, some with great calander aging properties that are designed to be left in long term equipment.

This pic hurts my brain, until you realise the pickguard ISN'T in place.
I'm thinking, 'middle position--under bridge plate???'

I do still have it but this is for a different guitar ( partscaster)

Sorry for the brain hurt:) middle as if it were a Nashville, decided to squeeze it in the control cavity, fits well, still investigating the other options
