Fuzzy....or not?

Do you ever find that a trusted set up suddenly sounds fuzzy to you in certain rehearsal rooms / scenarios.  I've had this the last two rehearsals, and of course it could be an issue with my amp or gear, but I wonder if it's psychological or something else.

I have an Engl Ironball original through a 1 x 12 greenback speaker at reasonable volume.  My pedalboard uses a Keeley modded DS1 or a Plexitone for drive.

The DS-1 does sometimes have a little tizz at times.....the Plexitone sounds glorious most of the time.  These are both used over the clean channel.  The high gain channel doesn't sound tizzy.  So the amp tones are fine, suggesting no issues with it, or the tubes.

Getting ready for an audition last week I felt the Plexitone was sounding more hollow than normal.  In the audition rehearsal room they felt a bit fizzy.  And rehearsing with an Americana band tonight I felt the fizz was even worse.  Using the gain channel with the gain back between 8 and 9 o'clock it was a bit better.

Like I say, I'll monitor it, tweak settings etc.  I'm very sensitive to these things, and have tinnitus and use hearing protection which exacerbates these things.

But as I started....do you ever find something about your trusted set up has changed like this....and then it resolves itself?

Thanks,
Andy

I had this at a gig a couple of weeks back. My sound became very scooped sounding and fizzy, seemingly all of a sudden during our second set. It got better towards the end. I wear ACS Pro custom moulded earplugs, and I think it was these that caused the problem.

We set in the rehearsal room in as near as possible the same positions two weeks in a row, same settings on the desk and amps and the sound was quite different. The only thing we could think of that made it different was atmospherics. One day was dry the other was humid.

It really is amazing.....ironically I started wishing I still had my Kemper just for a comparison!

Check in your guitar cavity that yr pot caps have a good solder connection to the pots.

Good shout but it's guitar independent.

Nope it's not my guitar either,  mine sounds fuzzy and pfarty on the gain channel.   Clean sounds fine.  I've changed Valves, guitars,  cables etc and it's still there.  Wondering if ive blown a cap in the amp or something.

Managed to get through tonight's gig ok but think I need maintenence.

Try turning up the bass and backing off the treble on the amp. I'm not familiar with the Ironball but often find this reigns in fizziness on Marshall style amps at volume.

Yeah I've got the treble and presence right down.  I need to do some more testing this weekend to try to see if it really does have a fault
