Do you have gear that is sort of dictated by your band’s style that you would move on otherwise?

I’m hoping someone is going to admit to still owning their school outfit for their AC/DC cover band…..
If my 'DC band ever splits up, I look forward to reclaiming the garage space when I shift the cannons, giant inflatable 'Rosie', and the 1200kg bronze bell.
@digitalkettle which trib are you in, man? It’s likely I’ve seen you!
It’s the one with the cannons, etc, etc ;)

No, not really…we’re a ‘spit & sawdust’ tribute to the Bon era…Lincolnshire-based…called ‘Gone Shootin’ :+1:
    Ah right. I’m Lincolnshire-based too. I’ll keep a lookout!

On a related note, I was thinking about some gear I'd bought for a specific project, a submarine pickup and an MXR bass octave pedal that have basically sat in the drawer since then. A lot of thought went into choosing them though, so I can't bring myself to sell them. I should at least try them again I guess.

100% , I bought a prs hollowbody specifically for the band I was in.. I got annoyed with switching between acoustic to electric , plus the singer was clumsy af so less chance of damage with less gear on the stage ..

You’ve just described my whole approach to playing in bands. The band dictates the gear choices.

When I was in an 80’s tastic pop-rock band with a keyboard player I played an Ibanez RG. When I (briefly) played with a goth band I played a Les Paul or Yamaha SG. When I joined a two guitar band (with the other guitarist using a Les Paul), I moved to a Fender Richie Kotzen Tele. Then years later in a Classic Rock band I was playing a PRS Custom 24 Floyd. Now in my song driven alt rock band. I’m moving between HSS Strats and a Feline T type live.

In a similar way. My pedals have slowly expanded depending on the situation. I now have a 12 string simulator pedal on my board simply because one of our songs demanded that kind of Bunnymen/Stranglers type sound.

Well, pretty much all of it to be honest. I do occasionally treat myself to things I just love for their own sake (Gibson acoustics, Rickenbackers among others) but if they're not earning me money I find I can't justify them and sell them on within a year or so.

If I wasn't in a band I'd just buy myself a Byrdland and a Twin and ditch all the rest.

Im in two bands. Flamebearer intend to use lp or flying v, sometimes sg or ltd viper. With under the ashes we tend to play around thr 200bpm mark before we hit the fast sections so use an 80s charvel or jackson rr. I uses a soldano slo pedal for fb and friedman for uta

I have a jet tele which has high strung strings on and the low e switched for another high e. Basically the pink floyd guitar. Only needed for two covers. If I could replicate the record with a pitch shifter I would. But that would mean going down the midi pickup route.
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.
