NSD incoming

Behringer Edge en-route, fancied some dicking about with synths for a while now. Cheap and cheerful DFAM clone. Handy for when I injure my hand (which I seem to do with alarming regularity).

I'm having a good laugh with it, it'll take me a while to get the best out of it but I'm loving it so far, also got a little MPK Mini for control if I need it

the Grind or Crave is next on the list, get settled into the Edge first though. I've been watching Starsky Carr on YT and thoroughly enjoying it. Not quite sure how to integrate it with my playing guitar yet as its outside of my normal rocky/punky leanings.

I'm not 100% sure mine is working as it should. I'm watching the Starsky Carr tutorial/review, setting my EDGE to the same settings as hes got on screen and mine sounds nothing like it. In the manual there is a default patch setting, I dont suppose you could set yours to that and run the sequencer (every dial on will do) with the tempo at 10 o clock, send me a quick sound file?

Bit reduction distortion is the short cut for that. For best results, run it in a send-return FX loop of your mixer.

shall run it through the board once i get all my cables sorted out

it was but anyone would do :) I think it just differences in components and the fact the demos are all pushed through youtube compression. I've got it sounding much better now but its a very fine turn of a knob to make it should shit(er)

Starsky Carr has made numerous videos about the Behringer Edge.

The May 2023 one is a (p)review of a pre-production unit. This may have slightly different capabilities to the finalised release version.

The other videos are either "how to" tutorials or comparisons to the Moog DFAM.

In which video does the default patch appear?

On the GRIND, something as simple as leaving a toggle switch in the wrong position can make an enormous difference to the sound produced. Patch cable errors can also screw things up. (Often in a good way.)

On the Edge, leaving a MIDI In cable connected disables some of the onboard sequencer functionality. e.g. Velocity to control filter cutoff frequency.

I was comparing my sound to a sound he created in that early review, it was off with mine having considerable squelch . The default patch is in the manual ( QuickStart) so thought if someone set theirs up with identical settings and recorded it I could hear how far out mine is. Having twiddled some more I don’t think it matters as once I get in the ball park then I can make my own sounds , which is the point really.
It’s a steep learning curve whilst also being quite accessible so it’s a bit of a mind bender . I’ll check out the midi when DPD finally turn up with my cables

I understand. Unfortunately, I do not have a Behringer Edge. I cannot be of practical help.

How close are the tolerances on the pots? It cannot be assumed that having the knob pointers set identically on two units will yield identical results.
