Fender Tweed Amp Re-Covering advice

hoofheartedhoofhearted Frets: 45

Hi folks,

I'm re-tweeding my old Hot Rod DeVille. I've stripped and sanded the cabinet, and I have the new tweed ready to go.

I'm a bit stuck on what glue to use. I know there are specialist options from StewMac and Tube Amp Doctor, but shipping to Ireland is slow and expensive. Surely there's a readily available adhesive that will work just as well – but I want to be sure before I commit, as I don't want this coming apart down the line.

Has anyone here done a similar project and can recommend a glue I can pick up locally?

Thanks in advance.

During lockdown I built a Tweed Deluxe-sized cabinet to house a 5F2 clone chassis I'd acquired on the cheap. I used Titebond 3 to glue the tweed and it's still stuck today.

Cheers is it easy to work with? I saw some recommendations for impact adhesive but apparently there’s no movement once the tweed goes down which could be a pain if it need some small adjustments

I’ve re covered a couple of amps with Evo stick contact adhesive and i seem to remember you have a few seconds of movement if you need it. I found tweed a lot easier than tolex to work with.

I recall it was pretty easy to work with, and a lot more forgiving than contact adhesives.
