Les Paul wiring question

What's Hot
Anybody know why on standard 2V 2T 2 humbucker diagrams there are connections from each vol pot 1st lug to corresponding tone pot 3rd lug? I was changing pickups on my Epiphone les paul tonight and there were no such connections when I opened it up. Everything worked fine before and i wired the new pickups just they were before and everything still works as they should.

I’m just curious what those connections are for. Am i missing out on something by not having them?

Where are the tone capacitors wired?
Between the middle lug of the volume pot and the 3rd lug of the tone pot?
    OR
Between the 1st lug of the volume pot and the middle lug or the tone pot?
    OR
Between the middle lugs of the volume and tone pots?
    OR
Between the 3rd lug of the tone pot and the back of the tone pot?

There are several different ways of wiring the tone control, which are all effectively the same - the cap can be between the volume pot and the tone pot (traditional Gibson method) or between the tone pot and ground with a wire between the two pots (usual modern/far-east method). The cap, wire and ground connections can be either to the middle or anticlockwise tone pot terminal. They all work the same.
