Marshall SL-X bridge rectifier mod. Who would you recommend?

rockmonsterrockmonster Frets: 940
I have a lovely Marshall SL-X which is running fine and sounds great but it is still fitted with the dreaded BR3 bridge rectifier. To avoid it giving problems in the future, I’d like it modded so that that accident waiting to happen is avoided! I’m based in Wiltshire, who would you recommend to do the work? I don’t mind travelling a bit or shipping it in order for said mod to be done. Amp techs seem to be thinner on the ground these days.

Dan Gower seems to be the main guy for Marshall amps.

I always wanted an SL-X. I really like them.

Dan is a Gent, fantastic work I've got two amps modded by him! I think he's on here too?

Yep I know him, he’s done lots of work for me in the past but I hear he’s absolutely stacked with work and this may be a very simple job, too simple of a job for the likes of the true genius that is our Dan!

I’ve never had to do one of those, but if it’s the same as the standard DSL401 fault - I assume it is since it’s the preamp valve filament rectifier - you don’t need to replace the rectifier - just add a heatsink to it, and clean and resolder the pins.

Have you read Purgasounds document on the SLX?
Gives all the info you might need, and the reasons it might be a really good idea.
I have a Mk3, 2500, is mine likely to have the same underlying issues?
No BR3, but BR2 looks like it is in the same position.

    Discussed in depth here,

The problem does not exist on my amp, phew.

Interesting! Sounds far more complicated than I thought! Maybe I need Mr Gower after all! I too have a Mk III 2100 :)

I emailed Dan G a week or two back and have yet to receive a response, so I am assuming he’s very busy just now.
