Yamaha Les Paul Model LP-800 Custom (1970s, Black Beauty)

Here a relatively rare Yamaha Lord Player, the 1970’s version of Japanese Yamaha version of the Les Paul model, these guitars were produced during the 1970’s till the early 1980s, along the well-known Yamaha SG range which was made famous by guitarists like Carlos Santana, Phil Manzanera, Al DiMeola, John McGeogh, Stuart Adamson, Bob Marley, Andy Taylor and many more….

This Yamaha LP-800 Custom was produced in Yamaha’s Matsumoku’s Custom shops and was deemed one of the top types of the Les Paul (SL/LP) range. The guitar sports a solid body, fitted with a set neck, gold hardware, dual metal covered Yamaha Humbuckers and sound arrangement with coil tapping option for a wide tonal control. The guitar body is decorated with mother of pearl fret markers and cream binding that has beautifully aged to a cream yellow hue. Lord Players and similarly the Studio Lords were much more than Yamaha’s Les Paul copies, these were solid quality guitars built from quality wood and materials. The Yamaha Les Paul models were produced with two main types, the Lord Players (LP’s) and the Studio Lords (SL). Whoever owns one of these vintage machines will acknowledge their appearance, playability and quality feel with vintage vibe….Postage in UK approximately £37. Price £850 ONO, Location Berwick upon Tweed. Photo’s see: http://elitevintageguitars.com/2015/01/23/yamaha-les-paul-model-lp800-1970s-black-beauty/

Yamaha SG-700s (Translucent Dark Green, mint condition).

On offer a Yamaha SG-700s in Translucent green finish, this is the rocky little brother of the acclaimed Yamaha SG-2000 that was developed back in the 1970’s, but without the fancy mother of pearl fret marker inlays and binding purfling; the guitar plays like a dream, light and fluid, with very low action. The guitar is less heavy than the SG1000 or 2000 series with a set neck and rosewood fret-board. It is a very pretty guitar as the translucent green shows up under certain lighting conditions, the guitar has hardly seen any use as there is no tarnishing of any of the the pristine gold hardware. Although the guitar may feel different from the more acclaimed SG2000, it is an awesome player. Comes with Hiscox hard case. Price £ 785 ONO, Location Berwick upon Tweed.

Yamaha SG 175 (Black, 1975) Following a long series of own design guitar since 1966, and initial trials with the single cutaway and double cutaway electric guitars in the early 1970’s, the Yamaha SG175 was issued in 1974 alongside the Yamaha SG90. The Yamaha SG175 initially caught the eye of Carlos Santana who tried and tested the Yamaha SG175 out. The original SG175 was deemed too light and lacked sustain. His input led to changes to the SG175 design and sparked its further development to the heavier and back body contoured Yamaha SG2000. Copies of these original hybrids of SG175/2000 can be seen on his live renditions of “She’s not there”, “Europa”, “Black magic woman” and more recordings from the album “Moonflower”. The Yamaha SG 175 is a brilliant and high-quality guitar built with a Mahogany body, surrounded by ornate abalone binding, the set neck is made from one-piece bound mahogany with ebony fret-board, again with decorative mother of pearl split-wing markers. It is a true vintage guitar as can be seen from the faded gold hardware, stop-tail, Gotoh style tuning pegs and switches; powerful sound generated through two covered Twin Hum-buckers. The headstock is plain and simple with triple binding surrounding the wood, there is no decorative floral motif inlay as common with the SG2000 and SG1000, just the Yamaha Logo. Price £2750 ONO, Location Berwick upon Tweed. Photos See: http://elitevintageguitars.com/2015/01/16/legendary-yamaha-sg175-1975-black/

Yamaha Super Axe SA-90, 1974, Yamaha’s answer to the classic ES-335 Following a long series of own design guitar since 1966, and initial trials with the single cutaway and double cutaway electric guitars in the early 1970’s, the Yamaha SG175 was issued in 1974 alongside the Yamaha SG90. Copies of these original hybrids of SG175/2000 can be seen on his live renditions of “She’s not there”, “Europa”, “Black magic woman” and more recordings from the album “Moonflower”. alongside the initial success of the SG175 and SG 90, Yamaha had pitched a small number of Semi Acoustic guitars also known as Super Axes due to the prefix SA. Initially modelled to the successful Gibson ES-335, the Yamaha SA line was initially produced since 1967 and with limited success. The Yamaha SG 175 era put Yamaha on the map for ensign and manufacture of brilliant and high-quality guitars built with a quality woods like Mahogany and with a set neck is made from one-piece bound mahogany with ebony fret-board, again with decorative mother of pearl split-wing markers. The SA-90 was the top of the range model at the time and led to further issue of the SA700, S1000, SA1200 and later in 1977 the top of the range SA2000 and SA22000. It is a true vintage guitar as can be seen from the faded gold hardware, stop-tail, tulip style tuning pegs and switches; powerful sound generated through two covered Twin Hum-buckers. The headstock is plain and simple with triple binding surrounding the wood, there is no decorative floral motif inlay as common with the SG series just the Yamaha Logo. Very Rare Vintage Yamaha SX-800B – “The Devils Head” , 1978, in Black finish Does anyone know this type of electric guitar or has come across one? A Japanese friend of mine told me that these guitars are quite rare, even in Japan. Initial production started alongside the Yamaha SG range; The Yamaha SX 800B sports 3 independent single coil, high output pick ups and its tonal variety and range is immense, varying from soulful and clear, to a powerful growl. As a collector of Yamaha SG’s, Studio Lords and Super Combinators (SC’s). It feels like a fusion of the SC and SG…. There are some indications this type was in use by Rory Gallagher… See: http://www.rorygallagher.com/#/archives/guitars/sx800b Price £ 850 ONO, Location Berwick upon Tweed Photo’s see: http://elitevintageguitars.com/2015/01/11/1716/

Vintage 1970s Yamaha SG-500 in black finish, fair condition.

Excellent electric guitar with a good solid feel, plays light and fluid with low action and a vintage vibe. Solid mahogany body with maple carved top, fitted with a mahogany bound set neck, rosewood fret board with split mother of pearl position markers, Chrome Hardware and Tuning pegs, with plain stop tail. The sound comes from 2 high output Humbucker pickups in black plastic, with black surrounds. Yamaha SG-500s were made in translucent red and black and were good solid guitars in their own right although guitarists may be more familiar with their more famous brothers SG-1000 and SG-2000. However, anyone who wants an SG and does not want to fork out a “Kings Ransom” will be pleasantly surprised by the vintage feel, playability, sound and quality of this axe. Price £650 ONO, Location Berwick upon Tweed

Yamaha SG 200 (Pearl White, 1980s) Super sleek and stylish vintage Yamaha SG 200 electric guitar. 1980s model. Solid body bevelled Mahogany with set neck, rosewood fret-board with dot inlays; Chrome hardware with plain tailpiece. Tune-o-matic bridge, high-output double Hum-bucker pickups. This guitar rocks and matches or exceeds any high end twin-humbucker lightweight guitar. This is the lightest of the Yamaha SG range and probably the easiest one to play. The high output pick-ups make your Valve Amplifier scream. Price £425 ONO, Location Berwick upon Tweed,

Yamaha SG 800 (Walnut Brown, 1979)

On offer a vintage Yamaha SG-800 electric guitar, there is some genuine play wear and three are some scratches and marks on the guitar body, however, all the electric components work flawlessly. The Yamaha SG-800, like the Yamaha SG-700, is a brother of the now very well renowned and famous Yamaha SG-2000, Yamaha SG-1000, and the lesser known Yamaha SG-1500. All top class vintage instruments and getting increasingly harder to find. The SG-800 was introduced as the follow up from the Yamaha SG-700 and was produced from 1979-1981. It was the successor to the SG700 which was released in 1976. Like its heavier predecessor the Yamaha SG700, it has excellent playability and low action with great tonal range, due to Coil Tapping options. Comes with gig bag, Price £735, Location Berwick upon Tweed.

Hiya, these are new adverts, some of the old stuff didn't sell....and I may decide to keep.

I tried the image links and for some reason it seems to work for me; I am a novice when it come to IT, tried Imgaur and some other photo down load programs, to no avail. You mentioned earlier "Also, taking the few seconds to copy and image link and post it here directly, rather than encouraging traffic to your own site is slightly lazy imo and also toes the line of Rules 3 & 11".,.. would be handy if someone could show me... Cheers J...

Right click on the image where you've got it hosted, "copy image URL".
Use the pic button on the textbox toolbar here - prompts you to "enter URL" - and paste.

Would you like me to combine all of your ads into a single listing?  Helps keep track of them, and doesn't annoy everyone else by your ads taking up a large part of the page ...

I've merged these threads as it was taking up too much of the front page.

Can I ask, are you a dealer?

Don't know much about these, always been interested though. How do they compare with Gibson SG'S? Do they neck droop? Is the neck set the same as a Gibson I.e. Does the neck feel long? Like the white SG200 ;)

It's probably too much too ask, but it would be great if you could include the weights of the various SG models you have for sale.  I live in the (probably forlorn) hope of one day finding a light one.

  • do you have any yamaha stuff for sale?
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.
