Cream alnicos....bound to sound good :)

I have rose tinted memories of an axa100 alnico some years back so I'll be interested to see these in the wild.

I wonder if they are going to be silly prices like Celestion Blue and Golds ?

  • Undoubtedly they will. Their axa alnico was / is around 200 quid.

It's be nice if the 60watter was a bit cheaper.

With the current cost of Cobalt I doubt it's possible to make a proper quality Alnico speaker much cheaper than the current offerings. They simply contain a lot of it. It's noticeable that the cheapest Alnicos are things like the Jensen P12s which have a much smaller magnet.

Interesting, as Celestion have also released a cream alnico speaker (90w).

Celestion don't make 10" Blues, do they?

No 10" blues, in that cab were G10 Vintage and Golds in an X pattern.. With the bottom two speakers closed off. It's my old cab, sounded great!

  • my favourite brand of guitar speaker.

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

bit puzzled, people expect blues and golds to have scooped mids, so if the cream is less scooped, will the intended buyers be happy?

Blues and Golds don't have scooped mids.

Tayden Alnicos are better to my ears than any others

I've had a few Tayden speakers and sold them all, really uninspiring and flat sounding.. In comparison, the Fane AXA has a 3D quality to it, but you need to drive it.

If you were able to get to Fane in Wakefield, the 100w AXA was £112.50 for cash, I bought a couple.

@pete24v was that a special offer or just the factory price?

I spoke to a chap called Mark on the phone at Fane, I said I was up that way and wondered if i could buy a couple of speakers.

Not sure if it was a special offer, I literally just paid at the door.

I'll be interested to see how these stack up to the old old Fanes.

Whilst I love Crescendo's (who doesn't) I'm not a big fan of the big output purplebacks. I prefer the lower output ones.

My favourites are the old and hugely rare mid 70's 40w Pulsonics.....they are just so detailed and musical- try finding them though! I have seen one cab in 7 years with them in and I paid £600 for it!!!

I have an AXA & Medusa in a 2x12 cab, every amp I've tried through it sounds great, especially my '72 Dual Showman Reverb.

@pete24v thanks for letting me know. I'm picking some up on my way to Matamp in a few weeks.

Outstanding! What do you pair yours with?
I picked up a 71 or100 a few weeks ago and I think the Fanes will be a perfect match for it. @pete24v
