which pickup for a single pickup guitar. (humbucker size)

Thinking of modding a parts caster I have to a one pick up. One vol. One tone. Set up.

Question is? What pickup up have you used?

I use the neck pick up more in a traditional set up. So is that the way to go?

I was thinking humbucker sized p90?

Bridge placement seems where to place it, is that always the case?

Any thoughts / advice would be great.

Still a big fan of the Duncan P-rails.  Gives three pretty good single/P90/'bucker tones in one package.  Bridge seems to be the place to put a single pickup.  It will be brighter but you can deal with that with the tone control.  Neck position will always be a bit darker and possibly less dynamic.  IMHO of course.

I would say bridge placement's best for varying sounds by adjusting picking technique and where you pick the strings: near the bridge for a sharp aggressive tone, near the neck for more mellow plummy sound. I don't think it works as well the other way round.
