What do you look for in a guitar case?

What's Hot
Hi guys!

I'm new to this forum but I'd like to become an active user

I was just wondering as a general newbie question: what do you look for in a guitar case? How important is the quality of a guitar cases' manufacture and what would you be willing to spend on one?

I think the Mono cases are pretty cool, but what other features can you think of that it lacks?

Cheers
!

protection of guitar mainly, easy to open and shut.

I bought a used les paul studio that only came with a Gibson gigbag. felt very vulnerable, rather than splashing out £140 for a gibbo hard case I bought a stagg hardcase for under 50. had it a few yrs now, case is very battered and scratched (lots of mojo) but has looked after the guirar for me well. gets taken and thrown in the back of car every week.

    Welcome!

If the guitar comes with a case, then I use that, if not, I'm partial to Hiscox cases because I think they're very good at protecting the contents. I have three of them, and I'm pleased with them.

I only buy Hiscox cases with my own money. Best price to weight to protection ratio IMO. Had some of my cases for over 10 years now and still going strong.

  • I have heard of humidifiers in guitar cases actually but I've no idea what they do or whether they're available in soft cases or not.

Thanks a lot for the replies guys! Really helpful :P

It depends what you are doing with it.

if you are gigging it then you need a decent hardcase like a Hiscox. If it's going internationally then you want a proper flightcase. If it's just being kept at home then a padded gigbag is probably fine.

The worst cases are PRS ones. So stupidly massive they don't fit properly in most cars.

Quality handle, they come away from the case on cheaper cases

Just to add to all the recommendations - if it's a hard case you're after, look for the word Hiscox written on it. They're the best combination of strength to weight of any case and some of the outright strongest short of a full flight case.

If it's a gig bag, I was really impressed by the Mono one a friend brought over, but they are expensive for a gig bag... about the price of the Hiscox hard case. Worth it if you travel light a lot though.

I have a Levys bass gig bag which is OK but not in the same league as the Mono.
