Funnily enough, Musty Guitar Case is my blues pseudonym.
Baking soda.
Place a wide dish or tray inside the case with a layer of baking soda. Every few days change the soda.
After a while (week or so) the soda will absorb the smell, or least most of it.
I used some foaming carpet cleaner stuff. Did the job, but the 50+ year old cheap, felt-like lining dried very hard.
Ground coffee is also allegedly very good at absorbing odours, I should have tried that. Mmmm, coffee...
The teabags, not the trainers. No sense in ruining the trainers.
I had the strange smell when my guitar case came out of the loft after 17 years (!).
Asked on here and did the baking soda thing miles better now.
Also put in one of those cardboard car air freshener things.
