Chilli's classic car thread.

What's Hot

Just thought I'd start the ball rolling with a couple of piccys taken from either Goodwood Festival of Speed, or Brands Hatch Historic Masters, and then you fine fellows can wow us all with your astonishing knowledge in identifying them.

First off:

does/has anyone actually owned a classic car ?

me ?  my first ever car was a 1968 Cooper.  Then a 1275GT (is that classic ?)  Ive not actually owned any others since 1985
just because you don't, doesn't mean you can't
just because you do, doesn't mean you should.

  • I've owned a few old Triumphs (TR6, Dolly Sprints) although they weren't much older then than my current car is now.

Stumped by the pic though - is it a British marque?

I had an Alfa in the 80s. Luckily someone wrote it off for me and the insurance paid out handsomely before I had to scrap it.  :)

Can I have a bonus point for saying his most famous design was the Ferrari 250GTO?

Hmmmm. Ok, half a point, because the GTO was a Scaglietti design, Bizarrini was the engineer.

I have had a few classic cars ... last one was a 1969 Morris 1300 (1100 shape) that was one of the most practical classic runabouts I've ever had. I had a 62 Austin Healey Sprite for some years ... sliding side windows and hood that took a week to assemble! Mk1, 2.5 V6 Consul Granada ... P6 Rover V8 ... Lancia Delta HPE ... Ford Capri 2.8i.
I owned half shares in a DeTomaso Pantera once ... closest I've been to a supercar. An old mate and I hoped to restore it ... it was a shell with all the greasy bits in boxes ... but it was going to cost too much, so we flogged it for more than we paid for it - and I built a kit car with the money :)
Cos of having horses I only do 4x4s now :(

Yep - Bizzarrini (sp?) and Chaparral.

    I'm a bit of a car geek.

    I really hope that's not a euphemism.

It would have been a lot harder without the bit of paper next to the umbrella.
