At this rate I'II be without power at Christmas...again.  Already had 2 weeks without power this month alone.  I need to go and buy some food and was considering work today, but considering most of that will be leaf blowing, think I'II leave it till tomorrow.

I just want to buy a few days food.  I don't want to have to contend with numpties with three trollies who never usually shop.

I bet the frozen pizzas have all sold out as well.

Think I will go there naked with a sign around my neck, saying repatriate all 'Terrorists' who have gone home to Syria to help their families from the British/US installed anarchy under Saudi command.  Poor bastards can't even get any aid through to them.  Meanwhile the British cannon fodder all praise Theresa May for her vote appeasement and fight each other in the isles for the last frozen turkey.

So that will be no internet, no food and no heating then.

So I think I'II get to working on my underground bunker and arms cache by head torchlight.

Maybe I should go into work.

When I get home again, I think I will stand naked by the main road waggling my dong, until some nice men take me away to a warm place so they try some ECT on me.

Glad to hear I am not alone.  There is massive pressure on anyone who is in a family to get together, and although that is not a bad thing, of course it necessarily excepts those who either do not have close relations or have to work.  The retail trade have ruined whatever saving grace the celebration might have by whipping up a maelstrom of commercial greed around it, by which they now live or die, which raises the stakes too high.  That all started a long time ago - it is an interesting perspective to think that Charles Dickens may be partly responsible. I have made a stand this year by not sending any Christmas cards: wot ? send unwanted pieces of litter card through an expensive overburdened postal system to people you either see all the time or will probably never see again ? Emp is quite right: my second name is now Scrooge. However on some issues you have to recognise that you're on a hiding to nothing and practice acceptance.  I have bought (small but thoughtful) presents and shall sit through the inevitable ups and downs of Christmas morning parcel-opening fortified by a glass or two of something with a mince pie, do my best to be a pleasant host, and try to smooth over the inevitable comedown from overexcited expectations...

It's not for me and I'd prefer not to do it. I'm pretty minimal at best and just get small token gifts.  It's just one big cash in that causes a lot of people a lot of stress and uses up a lot of cash.  It's a shame that the majority of people conform to something I imagine they don't want to do.  To me, it's become more of an obligation than tradition and I think if people don't want to partake in something they don't like, then it's okay not do bother without feeling guilty. However, if people do like it, then that's fine too.

Mum died last week and we've just wrapped up the funeral today. Christmas will be about just being together, minimal/no presents, and just a few decorations that mum liked (especially the crib).

Having said that, I GAS'd on a THR 5 the other day, so feel a bit of a hypocrite!

Merry Christmas all and hope your 2014 is a good one.

That is truly rough dude and it is always made more horrid at this time of year.

Hope you are all OK and manage to have a bit of a Christmas.

Thanks chaps, and apologies for hijacking the thread!

We're OK, mum had been very ill and is now at peace. Gave her a good send off. She's still here in spirit.

Christmas will be a time for reflection and being there for each other. And it will be nice ditching the commercialism (apart from some nice grub and a bit of booze of course!).

    I love it.

I love cooking the dinner, the shite movies, the bomb site of a house and the massively over-excited kids, and I love the build trips to the Panto and everything.

Best of all - it's 2 days off when I know if the phone rings it won't be work.

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

Never really been a big fan of Chrimbo. Even as a youth.

Mind for a lot of years my Aunt would come up for a couple of weeks, and she was a bit loud, and always had to have her way. Kinda spoilt Christmas for me.

I do what I have to do, at work I do the Secret Santa, and the Girls get chocolates.

Family and Friends for pressies are Mum, Dad, Sister, my best mate, his wife and daughter, and one other friend.

Much prefer my birthday, as it's in the summer.

Going to a cottage in Ashbourne with Mrs B and sproglodites for Chrimbo and boxing day, getting away from all the tense extended family round the table shite. Last year we were in New Zealand,it couldnt have been less Christmassy, the best Christmas ever.

2 hours to figure out the brakes on a Schwinn BMX in my dad's garage this afternoon. The middle 'un doesn't know he's getting a BMX, but he'd best fucking like it   :(

The wife is so manic (I mean totally off the charts) that I'm going to work tomorrow (days) just to get out of the way. Then I'll get home, and take the 3 kids out to the Mall (how many of these festive films are set in 'the mall') the Metrocentre, spend some money, go to Krispy Kreme for doughnuts and hot choc, all to keep away from her. Then she'll say, "Mind, no gin tonight!!!".

    Bloody Christmas.    ;)

Well.... 'tis the night before Christmas in the Fabulous workhouse... and we still haven't bought a thing.  Nada... no turkey no veg... no tree.  I'm working my arse off in Bristol all day today (I'd better get to sleep soon !) and won't be home until late, so Mrs Fab is having to do all the grub shopping.  Then I get two whole days off and then it's back to work.
