Tremolo advice sought

NPPNPP Frets: 237
I'm after a tremolo pedal that can do an early 60s harmonic trem as in one of the options in the Strymon Flint. I'd love a Flint but it's expensive and probably overkill. Is there anything else out there I should consider, including second-hand pedals and home-built clones?

Pedalparts do a Schaller Trem kit which sounds like what you're after. I have one in the "projects" box but haven't built it yet.

    Should sound like this:

The Toadworks Pipeline is/ was exactly this. There was a big version and a junior version.

Toadworks went out of businesss last year and the folks on eBay can't quite decide if that makes Toadworks pedals highly prized collectors items ( I want to sell my Toadworks delay so I'm hoping so!) or surplus stock cheapos.

I watched a Pipeline go for about £160, which was silly money IMHO, but worth keeping an eye out as one might come up for half that. Or for £160 new a Catalinbread Pareidolia.

Ahh, in which case don't Fredric Effects build a Schaller clone? Their German tremolo IIRC.

Yes, thanks for the mention! It's the West Germany Vintage Tremolo. Spot on clone with the addition of true bypass and an LED which pulses in time to the trem.

as well as ones mentioned there is also coldcraft and bearfoot fx
none of them are cheap though

i think i did see a cheaper one but cant quite recall the brand at this moment (and it may not have been a proper harmonic trem)

its alternating hi-pass/lo-pass filter, rather than an overall volume

the sound is between a tremolo and a vibe

there is a Modtone harmonic trem. Google brought up its existence but not a UK price/ distributor.

thanks guys, I'll listen to the demos once I'm back where I can get an internet connection capable of playing videos.

I think @HandsomeRik had some kind of pedal like a harmonic trem.

Give him a shout he might make you one.

EDIT: It was a magnavibe type.

just on my phone but when I went on YouTube the first demo that came up for the Catalinbread one had a little explanation of the process.
Also noted that the Toadworks takes an expression pedal like the Flint does and it does regular tremolo too. Beginning to understand why they fetch so much now!

I highly recommend the Hardwire TR-7 which has 4 superb sounding tremolos to choose from with no dicernible volume drop, tap-tempo, stereo in/out and is built like a tank! It also has decent sounding vibe and vibro-pan selections . It also has a less convincing Rotary/Leslie setting which is it's only weakness in my opinion. You can pick these up for £75 second-hand, well worth it.

£99 new at the moment as well, although it doesn't have a harmonic tremolo model.

That's good I had to order mine from the States whenthey first came out. Cost me nearly £140, after I'd paid Custome/Parcelforce etc.

lot of money off Digitech and DOD at the moment generally. I'll have a wild guess and say they might be having a relaunch at NAMM in a couple of weeks. Or just going down the s*****r maybe...
