Woodtone can I paint over it

Anyone know if I can paint (Cellulose rattlecan) on top of a Woodtone finish or will I have to sand back to the wood?

It's single pack isn't it? If so I'd simply wash it off with thinners. It's always better to start with a blank canvas, especially when you're not putting exact like-for like coatings on top of each other.
