I think I've seen it all now - unbelievable on so many fronts!

A (supposedly) Gibson LP Deluxe hacked to make it a double cut.  Firstly, I seriously doubt it's a Gibson, but who in their right mind would do that to any guitar!

And secondly, just look at the money being discussed on the basis of one crappy photo?  Oh - the guy says he's getting it fixed - yup, that'll sort it!

I'm just gobsmacked by the whole thing!  :o

Look on the bright side - it probably only weighs 13.5lb now.

    :)

And sadly, yes it is a real Gibson - the slightly-too-sharp cutaway horn is very distinctive for a late-70s one and as far as I know has never been copied accurately.

  • Is it just me or has it been used by a lefty & the "cut away" is an attempt to give access to the upper frets? Looks like there's a strap button on the horn of the original cut away.

    It's a no from me.

Dishonest not to mention the repair.

It was definitely fixable, although I'd like to see much better pics including a clear shot of the binding on the upper bout, since to do it really well you'd have to replace the whole strip right round the top, which is tricky where it goes under the fingerboard on the treble side.

Still at least a grand and a half overpriced though.

    Comedy gold!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

  • God I hope not especially if they're unaware if it's history,  but the again I can't see it being an invisible repair,  so. Hopefully the potential buyer will do their research.

If you look at it on the horizontal it looks like a big fish swallowing a guitar neck.
Maybe that's the effect he was after.
