Apparently this episode had a few references and scenes taken from the pilot episode to show how the characters had changed, such as the bearded rick waking up in alexandria vs when he woke up from the coma in hospital relatively young looking.
Wasn’t Carl mooching around the cars also a homage to Rick walking around and finding the little girl in the first episode?

  • Yeh, think so, also the last scene moving up from the container with negan and gabriel inside to show how many walkers were in sanctuary was a scene copied from the pilot.

Even down to Carl putting the sheriff hat down and look under the car, shot for shot copy from pilot episode.

As a side note I can't see Rick being killed off for a long time, I can see him stepping aside but not dying.

I'm not reading anything, so far I am planning on not bothering with this series, since I felt insulted at how implausible and repetitive the last series was

But I may crack, so I'd better avoid spoilers

As much as people have moaned about the last season being a nothing run probably excusing the first episode.
I enjoyed it WD has at times been like wading through treacle and it ambles along at a snails pace in terms of action.
It also sort of specialises in a long drawn storyline where everything is going down down down to deliver salvation.
So par for the course on the last season and frankly with a bad guy as bad as Negan it will be a happy release when all those episodes deliver victory.

but a bunch of people living on a rubbish dump who have lost the capability of normal speech in 3-4 years? really?
all wearing close-fitting, tailored outfits that look like cheap sci-fi?

Oh dear, this new series is rapidly turning to shite. Morgan can hit moving targets super accurately with a handgun, meanwhile the guys with semi automatics can't hit a cow's arse with a banjo?  Then there's the fatal words from Rick to Darryl when they're searching the top floor : "let's split up". Has he learnt nothing in all the years of surviving?

The A Team meets Walking Dead, getting bored of this Gun Lobby jerk-off storyline.  I'll stick with it as I suspect Neegan won't last the series, but it's a plodder so far to be sure (apart from Carol's eye rolling at Ezekiel's tortuous use of English - that's joyous !)
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

Yes, and in Carls scene, where you see the female walker in the distance, that IS the little girl from the first episode. They got the, now grown up actress back to play dead again :)

    Same here.

Funny how I was waiting anxiously forntge series to start again, then watched the half of the ep1 and yawned...

Negan right in front of our Ricky, easy target - lots of yapping and no shots fired. Silly.

I, mostly, liked the latest episode. Yes, they're keeping the storyline going with some pretty lame devices and dumb decisions that no-one would ever actually make in those circumstances, but I'm prepared to see it out for now.

    Spoiler below.

I guess that's explained by Morgan having all that time practising in earlier seasons, alone against walkers and intruders before he met Rick again? Whilst the others have had little experience of guns? Ever see the clip of Clarkson with an AK47 completely miss a transit van from 50ft?

Dumb and dumber. But then how else are we going to "rinse and repeat" to get Rick back in Negan's clutches? Probably, or something.

I do wonder what people in this thread expect of the show ?

The deaths of main characters only have effect if the viewer is invested in the character and to do that there needs the slower episodes to flesh out the story and character story arcs ....

It can't all be action all of the time , every episode .

If Rick had just AK47'd Negan in episode 1 that would have been a major let down .

I don't think the slow episodes are a problem, more that this series is getting frustratingly more and more ridiculous. There's no logic to why Rick wouldn't just shoot Negan when he's standing still, right in front of him. So why put the characters in that position? It's just bad writing.

I stopped watching it at the start of series 7 but over the last few days I’ve caught up.    I think it’s a show that works much better binge watching 3 or 4 episodes together- the slow pace isn’t as frustrating and it flows better imo.

Help me out with the events of S08E02 - I lost track of who was where - were there 3 locations or 2?

    1. Fighting outside the main compound - got that
    2. Fighting at the satellite dish place - think I got that
    3. 3rd place that they were expecting to be the armoury but isn't? - that's an additional place (not somewhere in the main compound, is that right?)

and in the 2nd half of it all, are Rick and Darryl in the same building?

I got a bit lost with it tbh

and I reckon Jesus is making the wrong call - they should have fragged the lot of them. gonna regret that maybe
    Red ones are better.

3rd place (where Rick and Darryl are) is the main compound. Darryl found the room where he'd been held and tortured. Rick saw the room where Karl had been. I think the guy with the burnt face had told Rick about the weapon stash with the "big guns" and given them the map.
