Happened on Friday. 20 years in the company and now on garden leave whilst I decide whether or not to accept their redundancy offer.
I don't really have another option so that's me unemployed for the first time since '96.
Going to take a couple of weeks to chill out and get overdue DIY done, then work out what I'd really like to do with the rest of my life.
On the upside, having been on the road repping for the last 9 months I might actually find time to play guitar now, go out on my bike, have fresh food in the fridge, move in with my girlfriend. Not necessarily in that order.
Forwards!

If I might make a suggestion, get straight on with sorting out employment - it'll likely still take a while but it's better than waiting until you need it. Best of luck chief.
Good to get gardening leave to start planning next moves though.
Good luck.
...and puts my "I have a decent job, but fancy a different job and am annoyed at having competition" thread of a few days ago into stark perspective.
Good luck & I hope the package on offer is decent.
that's horrible.
good luck.
Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!
It could be a good thing for you Stu but i am sorry it got dropped like that on you.
Time to play again is a glorious thing if it's continual.
I've come on more in 6 weeks than i had in the last 6 years, partly due to playing every day again.
Really good luck with the future.
You could also stop and consider whether you can use it as seed capital to do something you've always wanted to, instead of working for The Man.
Or you could just blow it on coke and hookers. Your call.
Best of luck DiscoStu.
hopefully you'll not take too long finding a new job
If if I can help with any advice, don't hesitate to get in touch.
All the best
