Personally, if I can find the time to do this, then my personal aim will be to have all the sounds originating from the guitar - even to the extent of not using a bass guitar (I'll just use the Pitchfork instead). If people like it they can vote for it!
I love the restriction that a task imposes... seems to get creative ideas flowing... but then I don't like the restriction.
If "guitar soundscape" becomes "bongo opus" (and who's not done that eh?) then it's in!
That said, it's probably best to at least try and fit the remit.
i would recomend anybody just have a go see what happens.

Would the Brian May type solo pieces count?

For me, 'soundscape' implies a somewhat impressionistic approach - music is ordered sound, usually defined by rhythms, scales and harmonies, compositional structures, etc. Within a soundscape I think these can be 'softened', mutated and even ignored to a very large degree. At it's most abstract, I would say soundscaping becomes a sonic analogue to collage - indeed, I personally differentiate what I do sonically into two camps- 'music' and 'collage' - and my approach to using a guitar developed in a similar way (influenced very strongly by Syd Barrett and his unconventional approach).
