Google headphone impedance and try to work out what you need for your device (ie what your interface outputs) - once you know, come back and I'm sure folks will recommend stuff from there...

    Well, apparently between 150-600 ohms

Not beats unless all you want to hear is flubby bass.

In that case go for some good studio monitor headphones - you're looking at around 100-200 or so

My son has some RHA T20 earphones that sound absolutely amazing. I'm waiting for my Shure's to die do I can justify buying some :) Not exactly cheap though.

    Beats are pony.

Even the cymbals have fucking bass.

  • For what it's worth, I've got a pair of Audio Technica cans that I picked up from the Guitar Show in Birmingham for about £50, and they're pretty good - I use my amp in the same way, with a reactive load running into my interface and then Wall of Sound III for cab emulation.

The thing is...mixing on headphones is never, ever going to give as good a result as mixing through good monitors. If you're just looking for silent playing, though, that won't be an issue.

Does this mean they cost £25?

You want something with a flat eq so the tone isn't coloured in any way by the headphones themselves.

I use KRK who seem to be pretty good.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

Tbh, 50 quid would be about my budget so i may look at some of the audio technica. Im not going to be recording loads of shred demos etcbut maybe a few things jusy to get ideas down, otherwise just for silent home practise

  • The best headphones I've ever heard are Grado SR60, about £80 and utterly brilliant. I don't know how suitable they are for your purpose though.

I'd look at some Sennheisers personally.

Ive got a pair of HD600's coming. They're kinda in the midrange of Sennheisers range, but they're usually highly regarded for mixing etc. Probably moreso than the higher priced ones.

£25 would be a fair price.

  • £50 on whatever Audio Technica are around would be money well spent. Also have a look at what Studiospares have at that price - their own brand stuff is worth a look.

  • I had a set of Technica and quite liked them. I think they were a tenner in Tesco ten yrs ago

  • in most music documentaries i've watched, the studio staff are almost always wearing sennheisers, now this tells me that either (A) they all have some sort of sponsorship deal with senn. or (B) they are using the best headphones for the job.

i prefer to believe the second option.
