What's Hot

Feeling a a little underwhelmed with this to be honest - Mex Fender Blacktop Tele.

Mainly because when I got home, cleaned it up and restrung it, on plugging it in, it was very thrashy and fuzzy sounding with gain. Sounded nice enough clean, but considering these are meant to have relatively hot pickups, it seems almost gutless with distortion added.

I didn't get a chance to hear it on purchase because it was a Gumtree/works car park job. I'd seen a handful of online demos to know what they sounded like, but of course they won't be playing through my Peavey Bandit...

Shame really, as I like the lacquer tinted neck and it plays nicely enough...

Know anything about the pickups? Might be worth buying a used set off here and upgrading.

Have a play with the pickup heights you might not have to move them very far to get the sound you're after.

Personally, I've come to prefer pushing pickups that aren't so hot for distorted tones.

You just need some P90s in there.
