Here's a mighty, thundering British handmade rock machine!
It's a Hiwatt 2x12 40w Studio Stage MkII combo. 4x EL84s, with a half-power switch and spring reverb. It's a single-channel tone machine and remains my favourite sounding amp of all time. Recently given a clean bill of health by Sutcliffe Amplification
Sadly it's just too much for my puny frame these days, especially considering I have to load up for gigs on my tod. It weighs in at around Twin Reverb level (but less than something like a Mesa Recto combo). I have installed side grab-handles and removable castors, which do help a lot with moving it around.
I bought it a few
years back from a session player who had toured it all around the world and
used it on albums as part of Amy MacDonald's band (anyone remember her??) So, it's been well used and well maintained. It's build to withstand any kind of abuse -
seriously rugged. All the same, I have a
Fender slip-cover which fits it nicely (with holes expertly cut by myself to
allow access to the side-handles)
If you want to know how it sounds, I recommend these videos featuring a clearly coked-up Blues Saraceno:
