I was was surprised to see how much wood work was done by hand as opposed to cnc patterns of standard parts such as the neck and body shape.
An official Foo liked guitarist since 2024

This seems nuts that he just knows how large the pickup routes are, the neck pocket etc.. with seemingly no templates??

The template is on the bottom. A pin follows the template then the router bit above cuts the shape to the outline or the depth required when cutting pickup cavities and neck pockets.
That's how much work goes into a custom guitar if you don't use CNC.

The thing that surprised me most was that weird 80s throwback car that Vai rocked up in, what was that ?

Looks like an old 300ZX, very cool.

That is probably the first Jem I've thought WOW, I would own one of those.

  • I much prefer the Breed pups in the prototype than the dark matter ones in the final production model

    I thought it was a Datsun 280.
Loved the black and green !

That Woody Jem is gorgeous. I would definitely own that, probably over any of the others.

    Thanks for posting Mark.

    I like the Breed
the first thing I did to my blue RG470 was to swap those nasty pups with a Breed at the bridge and a PAF Pro at the neck
    It sounded wonderful…

a few years later I swapped them again with Bulldogs and it sounded even wonderfulerer

    Wow.

Whether you like the guitar or not there is no questioning that it is a work of art and incredible skill.

Craftsmen like that don't come along in big numbers anymore.

It got me looking...just over £1500 at Andertons.  Very nice, alas I don't have the wedge for one at the moment.
