Strat shielding...

So, I've shielded my Strat build with paint in the cavity and tape on the plate, but the one thing I'm wondering about is the small hole that allows the grounding wire to go through to the trem cavity.

Is this hole going to allow noise to leak in or something? Should I block it and connect to ground a different way?

Is shielding cumulative or all or nothing? Do I need a 100% complete box like seal for it to be effective or is some "leakage" to be expected?

  • Don't worry about it. Shielding will lessen noise - but not eliminate it, regardless of how thoroughly it's done.

There is no need to shield a ground wire. It is its own shield :).

    Shielding is cumulative.

Also, don't shield the inside of the pickup covers even though they're one of the largest 'holes' in the shielding and in a fairly important place - it kills the tone. I found that out the hard way when I first started tinkering with guitars, after going to a lot of trouble to do it...

  • Block that hole up with bogeys, plumbers tape and matchstick ends or your whole tone will leak out and you will sound like shit

The only shielding I need is the Perspex type to stop the rotten vegetables from hitting me....

Gravy isn't the most effective shielding material.

I knew the lack of pun-tastic  threads recently was too good to be true.

Didn't think it would last this long? Knorr me..
