    These type of bait stations actually work quite well - pet proof too.  Unless you keep ants as pets.

    We had them coming into our living room a few years back via the floorboards next to an outside wall. In lieu of anything better, we put some ripe fruit next to the outside wall just approximately where the ants were coming in All we had a t that time was an over-ripe banana but it did the trick of attracting them back outside. It was peeled, obviously.
    The ones indoors I'm afraid were relocated via the Hoover. Next morning it was impressive to see the remains of the banana being slowly taken apart by loads of ants and none more ants in the house. We were able to sprinkle some ant-deterrent powder under the carpet around the skirting boards and, touch wood, nothing since.

    This is what we did and it worked very well. Carefully watch the ants, and examine the lines they walk along, some will travel one way, some the other. Gradually work out the main point into which they are entering the house, the 'portal'. This is their main access to the house and very significant. Print a very very tiny cease and desist poster on your PC and hang it on a matchstick by the portal with the decapitated head of an ant. Guaranteed.
