that bound neck looks lovely too. Nothing quite like a bound neck on an offset...they just look so classy.

First thing I noticed is the neck. They're chunky! Much chunkier than on the AVRI '62. Board was a bit dry - guess that's to be expected of an NOS. Pleasingly though, it's a lovely rosewood - after a good lemon oiling, it's DARK. Delighted.

Then the finish. Wow this paint job. Impossible to photograph properly - really deep metallic - it's a very thin coat, and will clearly ding like buggery, but it's stunning.

The bridge is still hideous. Spacing is guff, and there are rattles. Can totally see why people give up on JMs before trying to resolve. Having restrung it and removed the plastic sticky cover off the guard (who's idea was it to apply it under the screws / nuts etc? What a ballache) along with oiling the board, there's little more I can do tonight until the Staytrem arrives, so I'll put it to bed.

First impressions are very good though. It's a whole pound lighter than my AVRI '62, and it's lovely and loud / resonant acoustically. As soon as the replacement bridge is in and I've set it up, I think it's going to be pretty special. Not even plugged it in yet!
Interesting point on the NOS thing; it looks like it was originally destined for Japan. In and amongst the case candy, there are a couple of official fender leaflets written in Japanese, and an "officially imported fender USA" Japanese card too. It either didn't make it there, or it's been to three continents to find its first owner. Either way, delighted it's mine.
Gratuitous JMs shot.

What a great guitar. Sadly you've added to my "God those bridges are a faff and a half" opinion. I really want one but I also want an easy life...
And yeah - two small children have prevented amping it. Plus I want to get it set up close to how I want it first. It'll go to rehearsal on Thursday to be played in anger

Thankfully, loosening the screws and applying a well judged yank sorted it out a treat.

Here it is in all its resplendent beauty.
