SLUGS IN MY KITCHEN

What's Hot
Got 2 slugs in my kitchen last night. Slimy, horrible buggers.

Not the first time I've had this but I thought I'd sealed the gap where they were coming in. The sneaky shits have obviously found somewhere else to get in to lodge in my kitchen. I thought word had spread throughout the slug community that if they come in my house they won't leave alive. Looks like my Friday night is gonna be spent pulling the kitchen apart and filling gaps!

I hate slugs.

Is it your house, or do you rent?

@Roland renting currently. I would contact the agent/landlord about it but they are useless.

Yuk! You have my sympathy there.  Could be worse though - I found Suggs in my kitchen last week. It was utter Madness tbh!

In which case you should contact your council's environmental health team.

  • Can't you put a ring of salt around the house?  It's worked fine in 12 series of Supernatural!

@Roland I'll see if sealing what i can in the kitchen works. If I get anymore of the little slimeballs I will attempt to see if the landlord/agent can do anything about it. If they don't I'll give what you said a try.

I wouldn't worry too much over them. I discovered years ago that slugs are good at climbing up walls etc. I find occasional ones in my house. I do have a cat flap in one of my doors, and I suspect that this is how they get in!

Incidentally, I also get the occasional bat in the house (they live in my next door neighbour's roof). They can be a bit of fun to either persuade to leave, or capture but not as per the the recent Irishman's video.

  • I've had slugs in the kitchen. Not been 100% sure where they came from but I think it was just the kids leaving the patio door partly open. Also had mice in the kitchen ( opened the oven door to find one sat looking at me) and had to seal any kind of gap.

Slug pellets on the outside, copper tape on the inside if you can

Also a spray of eucalyptus, lemon and peppermint essential oils mixed with water around doors and windows deters spiders, slugs and mice

A couple of bowls outside with some bitter in .. works a treat.

Don't deter the spiders, they keep the flies and other insects down.

I think a polite deterrent is better than the inevitable squealing and death when my wife sees them

  • No need for fancy potions and concoctions, plain old table salt does the trick.
