Dirt pedals...... Home recording.... Big Sky cab sim

Now then now then.

I have no money so I'm not looking to buy now, truth be told a 2nd amp and cab is in front on the GAS list, BFD 3 and Komplete 9 too but.......

now I have a Big Sky with a cab sim selector, I'd quite like to avoid Amplitube if possible while keeping a semi decent tone for home recording. Headphone recording is all I can do unfortunately at home.

Any suggestions for dirt pedals that keep a good clean tone/signal and then wind up to American type filth levels?  I was looking at AMT primarily but all ideas are cool.

Cheers.

  • Duncan Powergrid.

Or any of the Marshall ones.

These are affordable options, and I'd say the Powergrid is easily one of the best distortion pedals I've ever heard, full stop.

    Or an AMT P2...

    I have 2 AMT pedals now - the P2 and the R2

Both excellent. Bergs has done a demo of each model now - so have a good listen.

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

Tech 21 Blonde is what I use for this. I'm sure any AMT would do the same job.

I do hanker for a whole range of those AMT pedals.

You didn't watch all of the reviews by Brett Kingman by any chance, did you.

    That is a dangerous country...

    Me too...  ;)

There's a voice of significant volume in my head that keeps nagging me about a programmable loop unit and 3 or 4 AMT preamps. Despite having tried it and not being quite as happy as I am with my Jet City, it just won't shut up.

I still reckon that a pedalboard like that would be significantly better than any of the modellers out there. Probably almost as costly (certainly more than a POD HD500, for example), but worth it.

I'd be looking at that Mesa V Twin, in your situation.  Or a H&K Tubeman.

So do these retain an amp modelled clean tone when disengaged?

Jeebus, unsurprisingly the S2 catches my ears right away but the D2 and C2......

  • The C2 sounds amazing!

Just found this, which has very little post processing and still sounds pretty great.
