Also, are you playing into an amp or do you need something to provide amp modelling too?
Maybe look for a second hand HX Effects, that would probably be the most versatile unit without breaking the bank, assuming you have an amp already sorted.

I'm saying this as someone who has come from a traditional setup to a total Axe-FX II rig, back to pedals and a Boss GT-1000.
I was dismissive about the GT but I've really warmed to it.
Some people moan that the user interface is a bit buttons on the Amplifire and Helix etc are definitely better in that regard, but I find that it stops me from constantly mucking about. You can always plug a laptop in a use the editor if you need to.
There's an Amplifire 6 for sale here:

That would get you started quite nicely. You can always add other stuff onto a board with it later as it is pretty compact.
Only other thing that I would say is that you need to think about how your usage might develop over time. Helix is also a USB interface (I bought one separately) and has a looper (I'm looking at buying one separately). So Helix might be better as an all in one solution. Should be able to get an LT second hand for <£600.

Not tried the later ones but my experience with this sort of thing is that 'new and improved' usually means 'worse'.

My opinion has now changed!!
That's why I keep going on about the ME-50 like a stuck record. When I recently decided to try a more 'advanced' multi-FX again, five minutes trying to programme it was enough to make me decide to stick with knobs!

Might have to look around for a Boss to try....although now I have a board with two Hudson Sidecars, an AB footswitch, a Fuzz, a Chorus and a Reverb pedal which I really like, loving the simplicity of it...
