22-fret PRSs also have a 14th fret strap button position.

That's actually one of the main reasons I don't like either of them - they put a lot of stress on the screw and the wood, exactly because they lift the strap far too far from the body.

Thanks for all the enlightening responses. I do not feel so alone now. I used to have one of these things pictured below so it all makes sense.
It's an incredibly comfortably shape, more so than a 'proper' Strat for me.
Look for another one - they're not that rare or expensive, and if you get one of the earlier Japanese Matsumoku-made ones they're really good quality, apart from the pickups on some models. The later Korean ones aren't quite as good.
Ah - forgot the left-handed bit. That does make it much more difficult. I'll keep a look out for left-handed Arias though...

or the better value LTD version.
Failing that, an ES-330 or Epiphone Casino is very "compact" feeling, as long as you can get past the big body.
I have an Ibanez Artcore. Even that sits a bit too far out. It is the comfiest so far. I assumed it was down to scale length but now I wonder.
I need a telecaster with 14 fret body join with a slightly shorter scale. A Ukelele?

I had a Music Man Axis Sport which - in my memory, at least - hung a long way to the right.
It doesn't have a long upper horn, it's roughly parallel with the 14th/15th frets, but there's very little length of body below the bridge - I wonder if that makes a difference?
It has been a revelation just moving the guitar 4 inches to the left. The SG angling tip above helps in some cases as well. At least I know what to look for when I next go shopping.
Thanks everyone.
