I haven't picked up a bass in years and have 3 high-ish end basses taking up room that I really should be converting into cash or maybe something guitar related. One reason I've never sold is that I'm so out of touch with what these are worth that I'm not sure what to ask for them. I'd be grateful for any advice on value. They are:
Lakland 55-94 5 string. Not the cheaper Skyline range, this is the real thing. I bought this as a nearly new bass from a guy in New York through Ebay. White with maple neck. I'd guess around 10 years old. Excellent condition except that the fingerboard is pretty discoloured with persistent use. Lakland only put crazy glue on these and it dissolves in sweat. I honestly doubt it's possible to buy a better made 5 string bass than this.
Yamaha Nathan East (5 string). I think this is the original Nathan East Signature model - there were updated ones subsequently. Late Eighties model. These were Yamaha's top priced model, listed at $3,000, but they had difficulties shifting them at that price and a small number came to the UK at exceptionally good prices. Think I picked this one up for around a grand. Blue quilt top and matching headstock, ebony fretboard. Every bit as good a bass as the Lakland IMO.
Fender 60s Reissue Jazz Bass. USA made Jazz replicating an early 60s bass, Olympic White with Tortoiseshell scratchplate and matching headstock, absolutely fabulous looking, virtually unplayed because I never quite got the hang of a passive bass and then I stopped playing. Imported directly from the US when exchange rates were nearly 2:1, it cost me around £1,000 around 6-7 years ago.
